Up for sale, a 1982 Fender Jazz Bass '62 reissue in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Part of the famed "JV" (Japanese Vintage) series of instruments produced from 1982-83 by the then newly formed Fender Japan, this Jazz Bass boasts the same USA-made black bobbin pickups that were also used in the Fullerton factory Fender reissues. A bass that will satisfy collectors and serious players alike, this JV Jazz Bass features an Olympic White custom color finish, pencil dated neck heel, and even the original faux leather Fender Japan gigbag.Weighing in at 9lbs 2oz, there's a strong fundamental attack and acoustic resonance to this bass, and it's an instrument capable of great versatility. While the bridge pickup has the midrange heft, top end cut and burpy sound that often characterizes a Jazz Bass, the neck pickup can be equally smooth and round. These single coils complement each other very well, and rolling back the bridge pickup and tone knob a bit can yield a very pillowy and thick thump that sits well in the mix and provides the perfect foundation for a band. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazz Bass boasts comfortable action and roundwound 45-100 strings. The maple neck has a medium C shaped profile with ideal depth and very round shoulders, giving the neck some substance and heft, even with the slender 1 1/2" nut width. The thick slab rosewood fretboard boasts original slender vintage-style frets which are in excellent shape, showing only light wear on the crowns beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-5. There is virtually no wear further up the neck, and the bass plays cleanly in all registers with no buzzing or dead spots and a responsive truss rod. On the headstock, the original reverse geared chrome tuning machines with clover buttons are intact, and the Pre-CBS style Jazz Bass logo is present and in great shape. All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of USA-made black bobbin single coils which were only used in this model and the early Fullerton factory Jazz Basses manufactured in the States. The pots and tone cap are original Japanese components. Other features include the original tortoise pickguard, chrome control plate, stock knobs, and bridge with spiral saddles. On the neck heel, the bass is pencil dated 7-1-82 and the JV prefix serial number also corresponds to '82.In terms of cosmetic wear, this bass shows some scuffs and finish chips adjacent to the rear strap button, as well as a few tiny dings on the top bass side lower bout, and some light finish scratches on the back and around the body contours. The original finish has barely aged and is still a vibrant shade of milky white. Additionally, there are a few pick scratches on the pickguard in the pick path and a tiny nick or two on the headstock edges and neck profile. This rare first-year Fender Jazz Bass reissue is a testament to the quality craftsmanship of the Fujigen factory and the formative months of Fender Japan!
The original Fender Japan brown gigbag is included.
