Up for sale, a 1979 Greco EG900 LP Standard in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of the finest "lawsuit era" Les Pauls produced by Greco at Japan's famed Fujigen factory, this EG900 precedes the "Super Real" series of instruments by a matter of months, and features many of the hallmarks of those top-tier guitars. With a nitro lacquer Tobacco Sunburst finish, factory installed Dimarzio PAF pickups, and fret edge binding, this guitar has a host of premium details not found on lesser Grecos, and will please any Gibson aficionado. And while no legal action was taken against Greco for their instruments from this era, it's worth noting that Gibson would later use the same Fujigen factory to produce their Orville line of instruments exclusively for their Japanese customers.A clear reaction to the Gibson KM model also introduced in that year (Gibson's first attempt to harken back to the '59 Burst), the Greco EG900 is very visually similar, with expert build quality that many players will argue exceeds Norlin-era Gibson production methods. The dual Dimarzio PAF humbuckers are powerful, punchy, and surprisingly articulate, with growl and power in the bridge position, balanced by a hardly less tame neck pickup. For saturated lead lines that truly sing while being equal parts thick and clear, the neck position humbucker absolutely roars, and when both pickups are engaged there's an array of great rhythm tones at your fingertips. The guitar weighs in at 9lbs 10oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Greco with 10-46 strings and comfortable action. The mahogany neck features a medium C profile that borders on the more slender side of things and stays fairly consistent in depth as you move up the fretboard. The rosewood fretboard retains the original fretwire which has a similar width to to the wide/flat wire Gibson was using in the era, yet with notably more roundness to the crowns. The cream binding goes over the fret tangs as per Gibson spec, and was a feature noted in the Greco catalog to differentiate this guitar as one of their finest offerings. The neck joint is also notable on this guitar, as it's the same dowel strengthened medium tenon joint that was a hallmark of the Super Real guitars. The original hand carved bone nut is intact, measuring 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the original "Standard" truss rod cover is present, as well as the pearloid inlaid Greco logo and set of Greco Deluxe single line Kluson-esque tuning machines with aged tulip buttons. These tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should, with light patina on the gear housings. All of the electronics work as they should, with 500k pots, green chiclet tone caps, and the aforementioned factory installed Dimarzio PAF humbuckers with double cream bobbins. All of the original hardware is intact including the gold bonnet knobs, cream pickguard and pickup rings, Nashville-style bridge, and stopbar tailpiece. Cosmetically, this guitar is in great, lightly played condition, with faint buckle rash on the back and a few small dings and scuffs on the body, particularly near the rear strap button. There is also a small split in the bridge pickup ring, but it still works as it should, and the bridge and tailpiece show some surface wear to the chrome plating. The Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchups or overspray and retains a deep and unfaded shade of brown at the edges of the body with a rich amber center to the burst. The guitar is also crack free with no repairs, and the instrument is structurally sound in every respect. This is a rare chance to own one of the finest Greco LPs on the market, produced right before the introduction of the Super Real line and boasting a nitro lacquer finish and factory Dimarzio humbuckers.
