This is an Epiphone Zephyr DeLuxe Regent archtop guitar from the late 1940’s. This is from the original Epiphone Company of New York, before Gibson had anything to do with them. In the terminology of the company, Zephyr= Electric, DeLuxe = the best of appointments, and Regent= cutaway.   As was the fate of many of these fine instruments, this guitar suffered the indignation of some fool thinking it needed conversion to humbucking pickups and extra knobs and switches. The pickup holes were made extra large and there was a circular hole cut in top where the volume and tone controls are and some various other holes for switches- go figure. As it stands now, the extra holes have been filled and hidden with an opaque lacquer finish on the top. If you look closely in the one photo closeup, you can see where some of the “fills” are. They are not completely invisible, but pretty well hidden, given the extent of the work.   I call this a project, though it is in fine condition now and extremely playable with low action, great tone and good looks, but if someone wanted an acoustic DeLuxe Regent, it could be retopped with a carved top. I consider this now as a tribute to the great Duke Robillard, jump blues musician extraordinaire, who, among many other fine guitars, has/had (I don’t know the status of what he has now) a beautiful Zephyr DeLuxe Regent fitted with p-90 pickups.   All of the parts on this one are replaced, reproduction parts. Tuners are modern gold Kluson Deluxe. Pickups are import p-90s (I do not know the maker), but they are of a higher quality than most with braided lead wire and great sound. Bridge pickup reads 8.1, neck 8.0. They have been modified to fit in repro Franz style covers, which I think look great. Tailpiece, bridge and knobs are from AllParts.  Pickguard and pickguard bracket are correct style. It is housed in a new Guardian case.   But, oh, look at the pictures of the back, rims and neck! These have the original finish and are of amazing flame, with fantastic birdseye in the neck. This is some fantastic quality wood, what you would expect from a top-of-the-line Epiphone! The neck has the typical slight v-shape to it. It is straight, the body adjust truss rod works as it should and the action is low and smooth with a pro refret.  Plays great, set up with flatwound strings   Please study the photos and ask any questions. This is your opportunity to own a great vintage instrument you won’t be afraid to take out to play, at a fraction of what an original Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent would cost. If you are expecting a factory quality guitar, this is not the instrument for you.  Sold as is, no returns, so be sure before you bid.
Note: Shipping is USPS Priority, for quick delivery, but the shipping calculator does not allow for insurance cost. If you purchase this guitar and want shipping insurance (recommended), that would be an extra charge of approximately 25.
