Up for sale a 1958 Fender Duo Sonic in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The most desirable Fender student model from arguably the most valuable year of production, this Duo Sonic is a wonderful example of golden age Fender quality. Featuring a body-only lightly relic'd refinish courtesy of MJT Guitars and a re-anodizing of the original pickguard via Tone-Guard, this guitar has been lovingly restored with an eye towards originality. Predating the Fender Mustang but boasting the same set of features (minus the vibrato), you can achieve a fantastic range of early Fender single coil tones from this Duo Sonic. Two flat pole black bobbin pickups (virtually identical to Strat pickups of the same era) deliver sparkle, twang, and great percussive clarity. For spanky cleans and cutting rhythm work, this Duo Sonic really shines, and the neck pickup delivers a low end warmth and fullness that's perfect for lead lines, especially through a Tweed amp of the same era! Lightweight at only 6lbs 10oz, the guitar is both acoustically lively and dynamic, responding to small variations in your technique. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Duo Sonic is strung with fresh 11-50 nickel strings and boasts low action and solid intonation. The maple neck has the Duo Sonic's standard 22.5" scale and a chunky, prominent V profile that fills the palm comfortably and will satisfy any player looking for that hallowed V neck shape. The nitro lacquer finish on the neck is 100% original with no touchups or overspray and heavy finish checking on the entirety of the neck and headstock. The original frets are intact and have been dressed and crowned in recent years with enough height to still play comfortably with no buzzing or dead spots. There's moderate fretwear down in the "cowboy chord" area and that wear is mostly in the usual spots beneath the G and B strings, with precious little fretwear beyond fret 7. The headstock retains a fully intact and original "Fender Duo Sonic" logo and the Kluson Deluxe single line tuners are intact as well, turning smoothly and holding pitch well. The neck heel retains a clean and original 1/58 pencil date, and the neck plate is a modern reproduction. All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of stock black bobbin pickups that sport original aged white covers. The wiring harness consists of two new CTS 250K pots and a modern reproduction "chiclet" tone cap with the same materials and tonal properties of the originals. The Switchcraft three-way pickup selector toggle, three saddle bridge, and knurled knobs are all original. The anodized pickguard was missing its copper finish when this guitar arrived at our shop, and the original guard was carefully re-anodized by Tone-Guard, and the new plating matches well with the lightly checked and relic'd Desert Sand nitro lacquer finish. The body cavities are unmodified and clean, with the original finish still present in the pickup routes and neck pocket. Cosmetically, there is no wear to speak of other than what was described above. As a restoration that's fresh back from our techs, this guitar shows light, simulated wear on the body and genuine original playwear on the maple V neck. The original hardshell case is included. This case is in fantastic shape, with original tan plastic handle, three working latches and red plush interior. There is one small split on the top portion of the lid (left end of the case), but overall this is an extremely clean and rare example of a student model case.
