Description

I've had this viola since 1989. It seems to have been made in the late 70's to early 80's. This was a great instrument that got me through 9th grade junior high, high school, college and through a semi-professional orchestra. I decided after 15+ years with this instrument to get a smaller viola. This really was a great instrument! I'm sad to see it go, but also sad to see it sit when someone else could have the same experience I did on it. This viola cost $900 back in 1989. I've not had it appraised, but have been told it's probably worth $1050 or more. Here is the on-line info about it: Vintage Ton-Klar Lewis and Son "The David" 16" Viola and case. A good German viola bearing the label “TON-KLAR, The David made in GERMANY expressly for WILLIAM LEWIS AND SON CHICAGO, ILLINOIS”. Not dated, but likely made in the mid-1970s . The two-piece back is of maple of medium figure, the table is of spruce of narrow grain. The varnish is of a light red-brown on a golden base. Back length is 16”
