Up for a NO RESERVE auction is an absolutely gorgeous 100% all original 1925 Gibson Trap Door SNAKE HEAD Banjo Uke, s/n 8022-37. These were the 1st Gibson banjo-ukes to my knowledge that had some sort of resonator so it could kinda be called the predecessor to a UB4!! Anyway this is an exquisite example, in spectacular exc++ to near mint condition! The woods used on this are beautiful, with lots of flame on the trap door resonator (very rare on this model) which functions as new. It clips closed tight, and the same for when it is in the open position. All of the original natural blonde finish is near perfect with a bit of wear/discoloration behind the 1st 3 frets on the back of the neck and some marks on the black peghead face, but other than that it looks nearly new!!! Even the silver "The Gibson" logo shines and looks new!!! The original 9" skin head looks new with no wear marks! I want to point out that this banjo HAS NOT been taken apart in any way ever to be cleaned or polished (except by me, but just to remove the back for the pics and to date it), other than that this is set up as it left the Gibson factory nearly a century ago!!!! The original tuners look and function as new. The all original nickel hardware is PRISTINE (and it is un polished!), and that means EVERY screw, nut, hook, tailpiece, tension hoop, etc. It is by far the nicest example I have ever seen, especially with that flame maple back! The neck is perfectly straight, and the frets and fingerboard have never been dressed or polished and are like new!!! The strings on it are ancient and should be replaced if playing this banjo. You can go on to Reverb and buy a whooped one for the same price as my opening bid, but it is nothing like this, in condition, in originality, and it has no flame in the woods at all!! Sorry no case but it will be extremely well packed for safe shipping.
