History & Prominence Here you are looking at what is without question one very rare and very unique Gibson Les Paul Standard...the Gibson Les Paul Standard has always come with a rosewood fretboard and the ebony fretboards were reserved as an upgrade for the Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop guitars which were nicknamed "fretless wonders" in the early years of production due to the special low-low frets they received. This guitar was built in 1986 and due to an anomaly in production it received an ebony board with the fretless wonder fret job making it a very unique piece. At this point in their history, Gibson, instead of scrapping an instrument that had a production error and taking a loss on time and materials, would stamp "SEC" on the guitar so that they could proceed in selling it and because of this the guitar survived and now you have an opportunity to own one incredibly unique and great sounding Les Paul unlike anything else out there!!! Condition The guitar has obviously been well played showing signs consistent with a 31 year old guitar that was played often. There are 2-3 spots on the front as well as some minor scratches and some bucklerash on the back that show wear but the good news is that from more than 2-3 feet the guitar looks fine as the finish has remained in excellent shape imply that while the guitar was played often it was also very much loved. The previous owner replaced/added the chrome pickup covers that are on her now and because he didn't care for the bulky "chainsaw" case it was swapped for a more modern tkl style case which, as seen in the pics, is missing the two front latches. The case still secures the guitar just fine but I'm disclosing anything and everything pertinent to the sale for both our sakes so please take a close look at the pictures and decide for yourself what condition you feel the instrument is in. Other than the cosmetic issues noted above the guitar itself plays extremely well as the "fretless wonder" fretboard allows for very low fast action. The pickups are the original Tim Shaw pups which sound amazing. The guitar is also on the heavier side but I don't have an exact weight on it as of it yet but will shortly. The guitar is not available for international shipping, will be packed EXTREMELY well and is sure to make someone a very happy and very proud owner.
