The instrument is a 16'' Giorgio Luigi Belloso model viola, with a label bearing the name of the maker, Steven Tillinghast Cundall, who is a luthier in Aubrey, Texas. The label also contains the number 2547 and the date 2007. The varnish is a light amber color on a golden ground. The two-piece spruce top is of fine grain that grows broader to the edges. The two-piece back, ribs, and neck are medium width vividly flamed maple. It has a rosewood chinrest. The viola is in excellent condition. Measurements: Body Length: 40.8 cmUpper Bout: 20.0 cmLower Bout: 26.1 cmMiddle Bout: 15.0 cmAppraised value: $5,400.00 (This is what an instrument appraisal specialist appraised the viola at and I have the appraisal letter to prove it.) I'm also throwing in the case, one bow, and a Mach One (hook model) viola shoulder rest as well. The case is a very nice Bam viola case (the specific model is a Bam St. Germain Stylus Contoured Viola Case Blue--I originally purchased the case for $354.00). The bow is a Klaus Becker 3 Star World Viola Bow, originally purchased for $1,349. So, this whole package (viola, bow, and case) is worth $7,103, but I'm selling it here for $5,400.00. This viola has a gorgeous sound. It has a dark, mellow quality to the lower register (which is typical for a good viola) but what I really like about this viola is the brilliant, singing quality of its upper register. It doesn't have that screechy, nasally quality that some violas have in their upper registers. I have received many compliments on this viola over the years, not just on its looks but most importantly, its sound. I would really like to sell it to someone who is a professional violist or a serious, collegiate-level violist; either way, someone who will play it very well and take great care of it!
