1974 Vintage Gibson L6-S Electric Guitar - Natural w/ Case - All Maple - L6S
Item Description
1973 Gibson L6S Electric Guitar in very good condition. There is very little playwear on the front. The back has some light buckle rash. There is a finish blemish on the back of the neck (probably from a guitar stand). Nice natural gloss finish on the maple body, neck and fretboard. The guitar has a nice action and the neck has a great feel. The frets are low and wide (fretless wonders) and in very good condition showing only very minor signs of wear. The pickups have a cool tone that sound good both clean and overdriven. The electronics are a simple master volume, master tone and a three-way switch. The guitar is equipped with a wide tune-o-matic bridge using thru-body stringing. The tuners have been upgraded to Grover 18:1 tuners. This is a unique guitar that has features that set it apart from other guitars from the same era. Looks, feels and sounds great.  Includes a hard shell case. Serial Number:  968652 Weight:      7 lbs.    13 oz. The Gibson L6-S was the working musician's descendant of the L5S jazz solid body electric guitar. It was the same shape - very much like a wide Gibson Les Paul, but with a 24 fret two-octave neck - the first Gibson guitar to have this. Model History The L6-S was the first cooperation between Bill Lawrence and Gibson. It was designed in 1972 and first released in 1973. The idea was to make a "multi-sound system" under a very tight budget. The popularity of the L6-S gradually dropped after 1974, despite high profile endorsements from the likes of Al Di Meola and Carlos Santana. Pat Martino, John McLaughlin, Keith Richards, Paul Stanley and Mike Oldfield also used the model during this period. All models were dropped from price lists in 1979. The L6-S Custom remained in the catalog in 1980 and was still being made in the Nashville plant. The L6-S is now generally considered to be the most underrated of all the Gibson solid bodied guitars. The original L6-S came in three variants; all were maple-bodied with twin super-humbucking pickups.
