Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Jazzmaster in excellent condition and perfect working order. Officially designated as the model JM66 by Fender Japan, this guitar has features that reflect the early Pre-CBS years of Fender Jazzmaster production, with a slab rosewood fretboard, simulated clay dot inlay, and a "spaghetti" logo. This rare and early custom color Jazzmaster is finished in Candy Apple Red, and is a perfect example of the quality craftsmanship coming out of the Fujigen factory in Japan.
This Jazzmaster embodies everything we've grown to love about this Fender Offset model, with plenty of detail, snap, and twang in the bridge position, balanced with fuller, more low end rich tonalities at the neck. Of course the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower horn adds another dimension to the instrument's sound as well, with a set of darker tones that still have clarity and cut, fattening up the sound for more mellow chord work or thickening up a good fuzz pedal. Weighing in at 8lbs 4oz, this is a fairly light and well balanced Jazzmaster that has a clear acoustic voice which translates well through the pickups. Setup to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster is dialed in and ready for the stage and studio with fresh 10-46 strings. The vintage amber tinted maple neck has a comfortable medium C shaped profile that borders on the more slender side of things, with a 1 5/8" nut width, and a slab rosewood fretboard. The guitar plays very well with no buzzing or dead spots, and the original vintage style fretwire is intact with virtually no wear and well rounded crowns. The headstock sports an Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson style Gotoh manufactured tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the electronics work as they should, and the wiring and pickups are stock. The vibrato unit works smoothly, and is ideal for quick surfy warbles and moderate dives, jumping back to tune well. The vibrato is paired with a Mustang bridge which improves the stability of the strings over the stock bridge. This particular instrument has a K serial number, which places it fairly early among Fender Japan's Jazzmaster reissues, dating the guitar to 1991. Cosmetically, this instrument is in exceptional shape, considering it's been lovingly played for over 25 years. There are only a few tiny dings and stray finish scratches on the instrument as a whole, and the Candy Apple Red metallic finish is vibrant and rich, contrasting nicely with the original white plastic hardware and notably aged cream pickup covers. There's a bit of light patina on the bridge base as well, and the chrome vibrato unit shines like new. This is a particularly early Japanese Jazzmaster reissue, and this discontinued custom color model is quite uncommon outside of Japan, as it was produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market.. This example plays extremely well, and comes alive in your hands with a very resonant and soulful quality that makes it a joy to play.
