This is a 1966 Epiphone Casino made in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the Gibson Plant along side the Gibson ES-330. For the most part, the Gibson model is worth more than the Epiphone equivalent (Think ES-335 vs. Riviera, ES-355 vs. Sheraton, etc.), but the roles reverse when it comes to the Casino. Why, you ask? Great question. The answer is simple: The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones. In the Beatles, everyone but Ringo had a sunburst Casino, and John and George's were just about the same year as this beauty (George's had a Bigsby, John later sanded the finish off of his and kept playing it as a blonde such as on the roof of Apple Records). David Davies from the Kinks played a Casino and you can hear it on You Really Got Me. Keif played his on Satifaction through a new at the time Maestro fuzz. Even today, Gary Clark, Wilco, Radiohead, Paul Weller, Brendan Benson, etc. play a Casino. It's an iconic rock and roll guitar. This '66 Casino is as good of a Casino as I've ever played. It's light, has a slender neck, the P-90s really scream, it's super resonant, holds tune well and is just a great all-around example. The good news is the guitar looks and plays great and gets tons of attention everywhere it goes. It's set-up and intonated perfectly. Everything works as it should and the P-90s are excellent. The finish is awesome with a gorgeous sunburst, bright, shiny lacquer and just the perfect amount of checking. There are some nicks and dings but what do you expect, it's 51 years old! The less good news is that this guitar has suffered a headstock break at some point in time. This was not divulged to me when I purchased it but it has been confirmed with a black light at a reputable guitar store. The repair is solid and very, very well done. There are no issues whatsoever in terms of playability. The tuners are replacement Kluson's with the treaded bushing as you can see in the photos. The pickguard is not original which I know because I custom made it to fit this guitar (reissue guards don't fit and vintage examples are pretty scarce).Beyond the tuners, I'm not 100% sure if the components are original or not. I believe the pickups to be original but I can not guarantee it. They sound awesome and they look original. The chrome pickup covers, bridge, trapeze tailpiece and knobs might be replacements only because they are in such great shape, but I can't know for sure. Again, I have not made any changes to this guitar in the time I've that I have owned it, nor did I feel the need to as it's awesome just the way it is.Lastly, the hard case is a recent model Epiphone case as pictured. This model in this condition caries a value of $4,000-5,000, and they are in-demand worldwide. Because of the repair, even though tit was done expertly, that valuation is much lower. That means you get a $5k guitar for about half price. All the cool, all the vibe, all of the sound that so many famous guitarists have been attracted too, but for half price. Check out the pics, they tell the whole story. This is a great guitar and a great price.
