Description
Brand: Hawkes

This is a Keyboard Glockenspiel. Range is 2.1 octaves from Bb5 to C8 (top C on a normal orchestral glock). The case opens out to reveal a music ledge (like a celeste) and the back panels open up for projection. This was made by Hawkes and Son circa 1913. I bought this in 2011 and have had it extensively refurbished as follows: -Bars retuned (to A442 as far as I'm aware)
-Wood body cleaned and strengthened
-Glock bar notebeds re-felted
-Brass Hammers cleaned and key action updated
-Piano keys cleaned The refurbisher discovered the date written inside the casing. The main change was having a heavy duty flight case built for the instrument. The case offers utmost protection, with plush black lining and super strong butterfly clips. The case is on wheels and has a pull-out handle like a suitcase. The case has several handles to allow for ease of maneuvering. The bars are in tune and sound fantastic with a bright attack and very long decay. The instrument plays well considering it is over a century old. Some of the keys are chipped slightly but this is to be expected due to age. If used in an orchestral setting it is best suited to slower moving parts. The key action prevents very quiet dynamics and playing very rapid passages, again due to age, but chords sound wonderful.
Just don't expect it to cope with parts like Turangalila or Daphnis & Chloe! Perhaps changing the hammer mechanism for something different may make for a wider dynamic range. Having had this keyboard glock for some years I have decided to let it go, very reluctantly, as I need to purchase some timpani. I therefore want this to go to a very good home where it will not only be played but looked after and cherished. In total the cost of repairs, refurb, and making the case was way more than what I paid for the instrument originally, so please bid with confidence knowing that you're getting a bargain for a rare and very unique instrument that has been given a new lease of life and should be enjoyed for many years. Please note that this instrument is VERY HEAVY!! UK bidders only please.
I will not post this, not even courier, so collection only please. Item is located in Thrapston near Kettering (NN14 postcode).
