Up for sale, a 1963 Silvertone Stratotone Jupiter in excellent, 100% original condition and in good working order. Manufactured by Harmony in the USA and virtually identical to their "H49 Stratotone," this Silvertone model 1423 has a black sparkle finish that was exclusive to the Silvertone branded version of this guitar, available via Sears. This model was only available from Winter 1959-63, and was one of Silvertone's more expensive offerings (a quality instrument to be sure). Cosmetically, this guitar is in great shape and complete with the original two-tone gray and blonde chipboard case. The pickups have strong output and the clear, percussive quality that you only get from a gold foil. The tone is full and nuanced, with great growl when you dime out your favorite vintage tube amplifier. The body is fully hollow, and that adds a certain richness to the tone and soft attack to the notes that you simply can't get with a solid body instrument. The guitar weighs a mere 5lbs. Professionally setup with comfortable action and a fresh set of 10-46 nickel strings, this Silvertone is ready for the stage and studio. The neck has a fairly chunky C profile that fills the palm nicely and plays exceedingly well, with a 1 11/16" width hand-carved bone nut. The original frets on the dyed maple fretboard are in great condition and retain their full, original height, with well rounded crowns and only light wear in the first position, with virtually no wear further up the neck. The multi-ply binding on the neck is the same slightly mint colored nitrate used on Fender pickguards of the era, and looks fantastic with the pearloid block inlays on the fretboard. The original Waverly open-back tuners are intact on the headstock and hold pitch well. A couple of the tuner arms are slightly bent, but still work as intended. The original silkscreen "Silvertone" script logo is present and shows no signs of wear.On the body, all of the electronics work as they should including the ingenious "Blender" knob. This knob acts as a balance control between the two pickups when both are selected, giving the player a smooth gradient between the Bridge and Neck positions. This is easily one of the coolest features of the Stratotone Jupiter and one found only on this model!  The original rosewood bridge has plenty of height left for future adjustment. There is some finish loss beneath the floating bridge base, although it's almost entirely concealed by the bridge when it's optimally intonated.Cosmetically, the guitar is very clean, with a vibrant black sparkle finish that catches the light and looks fantastic. The top and back have a glassy gloss sheen with light vertical lacquer checking, and some small nicks and finish scratches on the body. There is also light wear on the top headstock edge and near the forward strap button.Under the pickguard, all of the original wiring and solder joints are untouched, with mini CTS pots that date to the 49th week of 1962. Both pickups have clean "Rowe Industries" gold stickers on the undersides as well, referencing the DeArmond parent company as well as February 18th, 1963 date stamps. The original blonde/gray chipboard case is included and in great shape. The stock handle is intact, all latches work, and the case is sound structurally with a plush red interior.
