1988 Flatiron Gibson 1N Mandolin in excellent condition.Flatiron Mandolins were produced in Bozeman, MT between 1977 and 1996, in Nashville, TN between 1997 and circa 2003, and in China between 2007 and 2009. Distributed by Gibson in Nashville, TN. This one was made by Back Porch Productions of Bozeman in 1988. Back and sides are maple and the top is spruce. Action and sound are good and there is very little play wear and no cracks. The book matched maple back has significant flame figuring. This mandolin comes with a new molded hardshell case with black plush interior. The sound is loud and bright.The Flatiron Mandolin company was founded in 1977 in Bozeman, MT however, most of their notoriety/popularity comes from their association with Gibson. Gibson never really had a true mandolin manufacturing facility after the Kalamazoo, MI plant closed in 1984. In 1987 the recently formed Gibson Guitar Corp. bought Flatiron, built a new manufacturing facility, and moved all mandolin production including Gibson, to Bozeman, MT. This lasted for ten years when in 1987, Gibson moved mandolin production to Nashville, TN. Flatiron mandolins were still available for a while, but the brand was eventually phased out in favor of the Gibson name. Head luthier Bruce Weber at Flatiron remained in Bozeman, MT and formed Sound To Earth that builds mandolins under the Weber name when production shifted to Nashville. Shipping will be $45 to any place in the contiguous 48 states and actual cost anywhere else. I will loosen the strings and pad the mandolin and case well, use a sturdy shipping carton, and fully insure the package. Please ask any questions you have before bidding.
