First made by Gibson in 1959, the Epiphone Coronet was a great entry level guitar. The Dwight was introduced in 1964 as a house brand for Sonny Shields Music store in East Saint Louis, Illinois, owned by Charles "Dwight" Shields. Here is a very rare 1965 Dwight Coronet, made by Epiphone at the Gibson Kalamazoo factory when it was all good.30-odd were made in the early 1960s and 70-odd in 1967. Here is a 1965 model. It's not often you see one of these for sale as most remaining models are in collections. It has a 1965 number on the headstock and 2 original date-coded 1965 pots.As far as I know it is completely stock; it has the rare "D" pick guard, "Dwight" truss rod cover, and Gibson style knobs, which do appear occasionally on Epiphones in this era.The frets are original and good, it plays great, sounds great with a strong, vintage P90, has nickel parts (unlike 1967 models) and has an original rectangular case in good condition with all working latches (rare).Condition is vintage excellent. There are no repairs, no damage, no alterations, and only light signs of use, the odd knock and ding etc.Rarer than any custom colour, its a Dwight!! Super rare, hence the asking price and investment value. Do not confuse with a regular Epiphone, the guard and truss rod make this one a genuine DWIGHT!This is not only a worthy collectors guitar, but a fabulous guitar to play, quality old mahogany, rosewood, etc. like you can't get any more and with a tremendous vintage sound from the P90, played by such notables as Jimi Hendrix, Steve Marriot and Paul Weller. Easy to do a long session with because of it's light weight, and a good neck that begs to be played.Delivery includes insurance.
