Description
Brand: Ibanez Series: Artist

This is the 1983 Ibanez Japan AR1200 Artist 6/12 Doubleneck Electric Guitar. 24.75" scale length. 1.72" nut width. 12.85 lbs. This beauty was crafted in 1983 and is one of the cleanest Artist doublenecks you are likely to find. The AR1200 was originally known as the 2640 in the late 70's. The model was renamed the AR1200 in 1980 and was only made in sparing numbers between 1980 and 1984.
Starting off with an ash body and a set maple neck, it's no wonder the vintage Ibanez' are known as 'the Les Paul killers'. The ash enables a warm yet articulate resonance. The maple adds in some sparkle, and the set neck design creates fantastic tone transfer and sustain.
Dual Super 58 Tri-Sound pickups on each neck provide a world of tones. Each pickup has its own phase/coil tap/humbucker switch. As you can imagine, there are a lot of tones on tap here- from crystal 12 string brilliance to warm single coil to full-out rock. The overdrive tones here are exceptionally rich and full with complex mids and the neck pickups provide that beautiful syrupy saturated sustain. Each neck has its own set of volume/tone controls with a master volume for the whole guitar. The switched stereo jacks also allow you to send each neck to a different amp. If just one cable is inserted you can send both necks to a single amp however. Just incredible.
Ibanez has always been known for their thin necks and this one is a perfect example. The maple necks here are .83" deep at the 5th fret with a C profile. Super comfortable while the set neck design provides fantastic tone transfer and full access to all 22 frets. Add to that the 12" fretboard radius and you have a brilliant player. The look here is beautiful- Antique Violin finish showing off the grains, beveled body, cream binding throughout, ebony board, abalone dot inlays, Cloud tailpiece, Sure-Grip knobs, and gold hardware.
This Ibanez is in very good overall condition for its vintage- typical marks you expect and one chip on bottom side(pic), but nothing that affects the performance whatsoever. The frets here are clean- setup with action just 3/32" at the 12th fret low E.
This auction includes the original hardshell case in pics. NOTE: For those allergic, this guitar lived with a smoker for the last several decades.
