Up for sale, a 1967 Harmony H79 twelve string electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of the rarest vintage USA-made Harmony models, the H79 shares many similarities in general body shape and construction with its six string brother the H77 (and H78), but with notable differences that make this guitar a purposefully built 12 string machine. The neck profile depth and width are unique to this model, and it's one of the most solid and reliable feeling vintage 12 strings we've ever encountered here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar. The DeArmond Gold Foil pickups are unique to this guitar too, with a footprint that's larger than those seen on Harmony's six string guitars, and large, adjustable pole pieces. Factor in the original floating bridge with two (!) bone saddles and a 12 string harp tailpiece and you have one of the most playable, soulful sounding, and visually appealing Harmony guitars ever made. Professionally setup here at our shop, this Harmony is dialed in with D'Addario strings and low action. The neck profile is positively chunky, with generous shoulders and a deep "baseball bat" C shape that fills the palm and was undoubtedly chosen by Harmony to add mass and structural integrity, given the increased tension of the 12 string design. The scale length is 24 1/4" and the bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlays and original slender fretwire. The stock frets are in great shape with their full, original height and well rounded crowns. There is virtually no fretwear and the guitar plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. The original bone nut is intact, measuring 1 3/4" in width and providing ideal string spacing for easy chording and lead work. On the headstock, the guitar retains the original open back Waverly strip tuners which turn very smoothly. A two-ply black plastic veneer with the Harmony logo and some subtle pinstriping tops things off.All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, as well as a three-way pickup selector switch. On the underside of the pickups, each is stamped with the Rowe Industries name and an April 5th, 1967 date. This matches the 1967 date stamp on the body visible through the F hole. The original hardware is all accounted for, with stock barrel knobs, floating rosewood bridge, nickel harp tailpiece, and diamond switch surround.
Cosmetically, this guitar is remarkably clean and well-kept, with a vibrant and unfaded deep Cherry nitro lacquer finish. The guitar has a consistent arch to the top with no caving at the bridge or neck pocket, and the instrument is crack free! There are a few small expected scuffs and dings on the back and around the edges of the body, but overall this guitar has been extremely well cared for over the decades and is ready for stage and studio use.
