Up for sale, a 1980 Fender Musicmaster Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. With the original Olympic White finish, black plastic appointments, and chrome hardware, this is a classy short scale bass that truly sounds as good as it looks. The original gray bobbin alnico single coil has plenty of thump and low end presence, and the bass is strung with flatwound strings that have a slinky feel and strong fundamental punch. The bass weighs 10lbs 6oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and solid intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a well rounded and chunky C shaped profile, with a veneer rosewood fretboard and 30" scale length. The nut width is 1 5/8", a manageable middle ground between Fender's traditional J and P widths. The original frets are in truly fantastic shape, retaining their full, original height with with well rounded crowns and no visible wear. The bass plays cleanly all the way to the last fret, with no buzzing or dead spots. On the headstock, the original Fender stamped chrome tuners with clover buttons are intact and turn smoothly. While the serial number has an "S8" prefix which could be mistaken for 1978, the electronic components of the bass conclusively date it to 1980, as this particular serial number sequence lasted for a few years late in the CBS era.The simple, stock electronics work as they should, with original CTS pots and untouched solder joints. The pots date to the 49th week of '79 and the original tone cap is present as well. Stamped on the gray pickup bobbin, this component dates to 1980. The original dark burgundy thumb rest, Strat style knobs, and two-saddle bridge with clean chrome plating is intact as well. Cosmetically, the bass is in excellent overall shape with moderate buckle rash across about half of the back of the bass, but light enough that it doesn't penetrate the finish. There are also a few tiny stray dings and scuffs on the lower bout edges of the bass, but no serious or structural wear of any kind.A gigbag is included.
