For a video tour - http://youtu.be/cOAq1qI9U-4 Vintage Original Vega 5-string banjo w/ original hard shell bump case. Circa late 1920s. Whyte Laydie tone ring, G to VG condition overall, No. 2 Model. Serial number 61687 on both pot and dowel. Bound ebony fingerboard with star and dot pearl inlays. Hardware, case, peg-head geared tuners, tailpiece and armrest look to be original or period with the exception of a new Five Star Planet geared 5th tuning peg and a mix of open and closed tension hook nuts - but someone paid attention to make these look good. New Renaissance head, straight neck, 10 15/16ths diameter pot, 27 3/8s inch scale (or close), string clearance at the 12th fret is 2/16s plus. I have it set up for clawhammer playing and it has that great Whyte Laydie volume and tone. Fretboard binding is cracked along several places but glued and solid. 3" piece replaced on the treble side up close to the pot (see photo). This banjo was played. It has finish wear on the back of the neck and some fret wear in the lower positions. Original 4 peghead geared tuners have added black rubber gaskets (see photo) that came on the banjo when I purchased it. The tuners work fine so I've not changed this. Original bump case in fair to good condition - latches securely but some restoration would improve it. I made a "Flowerpot" design shorter scale 5-string neck for a vintage Tubaphone and decided that I would probably finish out my playing days with that one -hence the sale of the No. 2. Buy with confidence - check out my Ebay ratings - contact me early with questions and for additional photos - returns accepted. (see policy for exceptions). Shipping cost applies to lower 48 states U.S. Other destinations calculated. I also have a lovely Fretless Banjo listed. Thanks for looking.
