Here we have a 1987 Ibanez  R540Pro.  Origingal Backstop still installed!! This model is a beautiful deep black.  This color is gorgeous, but very hard to capture in pics. Most of the time you will see the Red or Blue burst finish for these early ones so the black is a little less common.  This is the Radius model which is the precursor to the Joe Satriani Signature model.  The model was only made for a few years.  This one is a 1st year and is the traditional HSS layout with mini switches. This has what became the Ultra neck profile, but it is a touch slimmer, not wizard thin, but thinner than what the Ultra became later.  The serial sticker isn't on the neck anymore, but we know it is an 87 by the mini switches and the smaller dot inlays on the neck. The condition on this is good for an guitar of this age, but it has seen play time. There are several impressions and scratches in the paint.  Some of these scratches and minor impressions surely could be wetsanded out. There are some deeper dings that won't be able to be buffed out, but nothing is through to the wood.  The back of the guitar has several "pock marks" and some decent buckle rash.  I tried to picture everything the best I could.   The original edge trem is in great shape with just some very minor finishwear.  The Backstop is installed and functioning as it should (these go for 150-200 alone). The guitar is great to play and has some amazing tone.  The neck is nice and straight with a little relief.  Ibanez called this the Ultra neck, which is more strat like than the usual super thin wizard necks of this era.  Joe likes the thicker C shaped neck.  There are NO cracks at the locking nut and NO neck pocket cracks.  The frets have plenty of meat on them, they barely even show signs light chording divots.  The electronics all function as they should and I haven't noticed any scratchiness in the pots or switches.  The pickups are the original IBZ/USA pickups by Dimarzio and they sound amazing.  There is also a factory push/push pot that splits the bridge pickup for even more versatility. This comes with the trem bar and all the cavity covers.  If a case is needed I have one for some extra coin.
