This is a piece of Fender history in absolutely amazing condition. This is the 1983 "Dan Smith Era" American Standard Stratocaster. This Strat was only made for about 2 years. It has the Free Flyte Tremelo system. All routing was done from the front in these years. There is less wood carved out and more wood to resonate. It has a Bi-Flex truss rod that was developed for this model and is still in use today in some Standard's and specialty models. The truss rod can be adjusted forward or backward. This is one of the only members of the Fender family that has the input jack located on the front next to the volume and tone knobs. I always find this to be an instant conversation starter when playing it out. This guitar has the Fender fine-tuning locking nut that was an option for a short time in the 83-84 models, very few were sold. After the Fender Fullerton factory closed in 84 the Fender locking nuts were never made again. Now over 30 years later, this part is even rarer than the guitars that they were built for. The tremolo arm for this model is designed a bit differently from Strats of other years. It comes out slightly further and snaps into the Free Flyte Tremelo System. Do not lose the tremolo arm that is included. I have seen them for sale online for $125. It is rare and specific to this model. The tremolo system of the Dan Smith era strat provides a wild ride. It will dive deep and rise with precision. The Olympic White finish is still holding strong. That butterscotch shade is starting to come in a bit, but I find that this is one of the sexiest things that can happen to a white Fender. This guitar is a dream come true for classic metal heads, and would be a dynamite tool for surf rock. If you buy this guitar, you can do with it what you will. But, I hope and pray you will not alter it. This is a fully functional museum piece and is far more valuable when left the way it was originally built. The manual states not to use anything but 8-10 gauge strings on this guitar. Hardshell case is included as well as the factory allen wrench, tremolo arm (again do not misplace this), polish cloth, and a sticker. I don't know if the glue is still good on the sticker :) You will not see another 83 Strat in this condition. (manual is not included, it's available online)
