Here I have an original 1958 Fender Duo Sonic that has been fully restored. This beautiful guitar has been brought back to playing condition and it looks gorgeous. The guitar has been refinished in it's correct Desert Sand color. The face of the headstock was also refinished and fitted with a new decal.
Originally these guitars had very cheap finishes where they would sometimes spray the color coat right on top of the wood but this one has been given a more expensive finish that a top of the line model would have. As you can see some of the original finish was left in the neck pocket. The body has been lightly relic'd and there is heavy finish checking present throughout the body. There are also a few minor dings here and there. Thankfully the finish on the neck is still original aside from the face and it's in very good shape.
The frets on this guitar are original. It also still wears it's original bridge. The earliest versions of the Duo Sonic had smooth saddles like the first Telecasters did. In a way these guitars are baby Telecasters. I currently have a set of 10-52 hybrid strings and it rings like a bell. A new bone nut was also made with slightly wider spacer between the strings for someone who is used to a larger instrument. These Duo Sonics have 22" scale length necks and require heavier strings.
The pickguard is original as is the switch but the pickups are aftermarket greybacks. They have a slightly hotter output than an original 50s guitar would have. I believe the knobs were from a vintage G&L. The only reissue parts on this guitar are the neckplate and tuners. The neckplate serial number was randomly generated and I believe it dates to 1961. As you can see underneath the pickguard it has an original Astron capacitor from the 50s. The pots date to 1960-61. This guitar would sound great with a low wattage tube amp. The original case is included in this auction although it is in too rough of shape for daily use. This would make an awesome addition to any collection.
