Yamaha YSL691 Professional Jazz Trombone8 Inch Yellow Brass Bell.509 Medium Bore Lightweight Nickle SlideThree Interchangeable leadpipesNo DentsGreat Slide action Yamaha came to the United States with their brass instruments in the early 70's and copied Conn Trombones and Schilke Trumpets. They found a good market because of their consistancy in manufacturing. There are no bad Yamaha trumpets or trombones. Every one is as good as the one before it or after it. While it has been a gradual process to grow their business, jazz trombones were one area that got quick acceptance. Getting JJ Johnson to play the ysl 691 opened a lot of eyes and helped this end of their business. This is a trombone designed specifically for jazz. The .508 bore is considered medium bore but is on the slightly smaller end of that. It will still assist in pursuit of high notes but has enough size to produce a rich warm sound with slow moist air. Pour the air to it and it will brighten up to project and cut through a loud big band. Yamaha has taken the lead of the high end custom manufacturers and offered three leadpipes. Each one produces a slightly different color of tone. Between the leadpipes and choices of mouthpieces it can sound like completely different trombones. It will take some time and effort to decide what works best for you. It is an enjoyable quest. This one came to me in very good condition. I had a couple small soft dings professionally removed and the slide cleaned and aligned. What you get is a clean straight trombone with no dents and a shiny lacquer finish in good shape as you can see from the pictures. The slide is what you want a slide to be - fast, free, smooth and quiet. Comes with the original case in great shape- Yamaha makes the best cases by any instrument manufacturer- Lightweight and protective. Blessing 6 1/2AL mouthpiece included. I like that size for a horn like this - might look at other brands. Trying several in combination with the different leadpipes will be a good project. I would suggest taking your new horn to a music store and spend some time there. The new Yamaha that is similar to this now sells for $2200 even through the discount houses. This should be a great chance to get a superb trombone in great cosmetic and playing condition for a good value.I will ship well packed to the lower 48 states for $55 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal Service. Eurpe and Japan should expect to pay about $100 for shipping - Australia a bit more.NO Reserve or Buy It Now- Auction sets the price and High Bidder wins it!!!
