Vintage "NEW" Condition. Barely touched museum quality 1983 Fender Stratocaster "Dan Smith" USA Made...The LAST Fenders Made in the FULLERTON, CA. Factory...W/ Original Hard Shell Case & Rare Whammy Bar..."COLLECTORS PIECE" Dead Mint...     Fender History...At the end of the resurgent "Dan Smith" era, Fender introduced a new Stratocaster with only two control knobs and a input jack mounted on the top of the body for 1983 and 1984.      For the Collector...Fender historians say the this is the "only" Fender Stratocaster in the history of the Fender Corporation with any notable "history to it at all! No other Strat since the early 50's had a single notable change to it...Every other Start since the inception of the Strat was all Leo! Circa (1981) Dan Smith named to "SAVE" Fender Guitars from the crappy production guitars of the late 70's, and the Fender Corp. was basically going under due to very poor sales. ...the company was hurting in a big way.      Smith basically shuts production down to (Stated by competent Fender historians)  Dan Smith inherits the Fender Fullerton, CA factory which is ripping out about 250-350 guitars per day in the late 70's early 80's to Hand building 15-25 guitars per day!...Hence...the "Dan Smith" Era!      This Dan Smith Era Model was one of the very last guitars built out of the Original "Fullerton" California Factory. Dan Smith absolutely had a hand in the design & engineering of these 82'-84' built Stratocasters out of the Fullerton, CA Fender factory. Which makes this particular guitar very Rare, and very Collectible. ...these are the last guitars made in Fullerton before the move to the new factory.     Besides the "Freeflyte" Bridge which is truly unique, and a real departure from the well know Leo engineered bridges created for the Stratocaster by Leo from its inception.  Without a cavity for the free float bridge of the original design...the Freefltye bridge has zero cavity & a lot of solid wood surrounding the newly designed bridge which many owners say adds a lot of sustain...the only other 2 engineering differences. (Both done to save Time which translates into money at the end of the day by paying the guitar builders less money in production time. With the "new" bridge design there is now no need to cut the floating bridge into the body! So, that equals less time on the production floor, and more money for Fender...Guys, Fender was really hurting in the late 70's early 80's, and there are a few real reasons why. Obviously it's due to the way these guitars were built. From what Fender historians say the guitar builders for Fender were running around the shop floor just piecing Start stock together to build these (lesser than) Fender quality Starts...I have my own personal opinion as to why Fender took a header during these days.      Think about this!!! 80's METAL! I was a part of the 80's metal days living in L.A., and myself as a guitar player, nor anybody I knew that played the Sunset Strip played a FENDER STRATOCASTER! I'm talking about all the guys you know from Eddie Van Halen to Warren DiMartini (Ratt)...everyone including myself had a Strat "Style" Axe, and there was a couple of key differences that I truly believe gave the traditional Fender Start zero street creds from about 1979 to 1986...that's along time for your signature guitar to be out of favor which equals no sales for Fender. Here's the biggest difference...we all had "HUMBUCKERS" in our Strat Style guitars mainly due to Eddie's Frankenstein that set the guitar business on it's ear right from the start of the 80's Metal Revolution. Starting with Eddie's "Franky" to the first production Kramer 1 or 2 Humbuckers with a Floyd Rose Tremolo guitars on to the many, many similar guitar companies that really flourished during the 80's like Kramer Jackson,  BC Rich, everybody had a "Charvel", Washburn, Hamer, and on and on...even Gretch made some crazy shaped metal looking guitars to jump on the metal scene band wagon...that's where the money was. That's my person theory on why the "Strat" proper just dropped like a rock during those days...The Fender had single coil pick-ups...another huge problem for shredders back then...the only regular Strat player I can remember was maybe Malmsteen, but he was on his own planet anyways! lol...( I have sat with a spoken directly too a top Kramer Exec about much of what I'm saying here, and it all lines up)... It's Eddie, the Humbuckers, Kramer, and the Floyd Rose double locking Tremolo that crushed the Fender Strat during the 80's! I'm sure that I'm not the only person that ever though of the 80's metal guitar thing as being Fender's bain, but I wrote it down to add to the back story of this really cool Dan Smith Strat.     Maybe Fender though it was because of the Start production quality...but maybe not so much right!? So here's what Fender did to save a few bucks in time on the floor, and parts...The new bridge didn't need to be cut into the body saving money in time, and the 2nd tone knob was taken out, and the input jack put in...that saved 1-Potentiometer &1-knob, so what did they save in $ there? a dollar??? lol...I guess a dollar plus paying the Fender guys to cut out the bridge cavity really added up enough to make this "Dan Smith" Strat! I feel like it was maybe just desperation to sell more guitars during the 80's more than actually saving any money in production. Here's another really cool thing about this D.S. Strat...the fret board is actually a little bit wider making it a much quicker & easier playing guitar also say many owners.      The changes were made to basically save the company money, and nothing more. So, this Dan Smith Era Strat Love it or not..is real Fender History! Really Very RARE, and NOW more recently becoming VERY highly Collectible! This particular "Vintage" Strat up for sale here has barely been touched since 1983! And found chillin' in its case for the last 34 years!
