“1993 Special Edition” Fender Stratocaster This is quite a rare variant of the Stratocaster (limited edition of only 400 worldwide), and this particular example is exceptionally well preserved for a 24 year old instrument. This version was based on the then current “American Standard” Strat and shares the same TBX tone control and slightly wider neck with flatter fretboard radius than earlier versions, but also with various extra enhancements to stand out from the common crowd, including: Texas Special pickups (then only usually available on Custom Shop guitars)Various custom finish options including, in this case, 2-tone Vintage SunburstThis guitar is all standard except for the addition of a Hipshots “Tremsetter” device inside the trem cavity (an easily reversible mod, though I doubt you’d want to) There is a bit of minor fret wear, some wear to the gold plating on the D and low E bridge saddles, and a little lacquer checking here and there on the back of the neck and just one location on the back of the body (unless what I’m seeing is simply a very light scratch). Other than that, the physical condition is absolutely immaculate. The action is low and the playing feel is very good in general. And the Texas Specials in here give a “just right” optimum of subtly hot with bags of tone. Overall, I’d say this is a well above average post-vintage Strat with plenty more going for it than just mere superficial looks. And being a rare limited edition in this condition, maybe even some future collectable value too. The original tweed case is also included.
