Firstly I thought I had a '64 Burns Marvin then realised that it was different, I thought I had a prototype. I consulted with several experts and they confirmed:-Here is a Burns Marvin signature guitar in the rare greenburst finish. Custom made by the late Jack Golder. Jack worked alongside Jim Burns in the 60's producing Burn's guitars. It is in good condition.I'm unable to confirm its age but looking through the various web sites, refering to the book "Pearls and Crazy Diamonds" and discussing with other experts, it firstly appeared to be a 1964 model with serial number 1152. However it was possibly custom made in the late 70's/early 80's by Jack Golder. It is similar to a '64 Marvin.
"ReZ-O-Matik" and "Burns London" engravings on the pickup covers are of the stretched out version.Does not have the push pull tone controlls as on the newer models.Body colour in rare Greenburst, scratchplates are Black.Maple neck. 43mm or 1.675" nut measurement. with Scroll maple headstock with a white "Marvin" logo. Burns machine heads.Burns designed Rez-O-Tube vibrato unit engraved with "Designed and Handcrafted for Hank B Marvin by Burns".
Back plate covering the four bolt neck joint engraved with the serial number 1152, seven British patents and one US patent.Burns designed adjustable saddles.Weighs 8lbs 3oz.
Comes with original hard case with plush orange coloured lining.Also comes with the book "Pearls and Crazy Diamonds"
There are three places where over the years through persons adjusting the guitar, paint has chipped off. One location is adjacent to the right hand adjustable bolt for the vibrato tension spring and two chips either side of the neck where it fits into the neck socket, because of the guitars' colour these chips are barely visible. Also over the years someone had fitted different machine heads. They have now been replaced with the set of Burns machine heads that came with the guitar when I purchased it. Leaving six small screw holes in the back of the head which have been filled, but can still be seen. The truss rod adjustment for the neck is in the bottom.
I can deliver myself within reason or meet halfway or at a service station for petrol money if necessary.Postage to some international destinations may be more or less than I have estimated, so adjustment either way will be required.I'm going to be on leave for a week 11/4/ to 18/4 so if it is purchased during this time, nothing will happen until I return.
