PATRICK EGGLE BERLIN GOLDTOP This is a very rare example of Patrick Eggle's flagship Berlin model. This model is unique compared to any of the other production Berlins due to the P90 pickups and the rare goldtop finish (only seen on a handful of Berlins). I believe it to be the Berlin P2 model referred to on the Patrick Eggle website, although having never seen another example of this model, I suspect it never made it into full production. The guitar dates back to around 1996/7 (serial number 009564) and is just a superb quality British built guitar, The spec is as follows:Body: Mahogany with a carved maple top - the gold finish does not wrap around the edges, leaving the maple exposedNeck: Mahogany set neck with rosewood fingerboard accommodating 22 fretsPickups: 2x Seymour Duncan P90s controlled by standard volume / tone / 3 way toggle controlsTuners: locking Sperzel machine headsBridge: Wilkinson - although the original bridge was Wilkinson, this is a replacementThe guitar sounds massive with the P90s providing that raw aggression and cutting rock voice that you'd expect. On clean settings they respond well to lighter picking dynamics to produce some great mellow sounds, or harder playing allows a much more snappy and bright tonality to shine through. The build quality of Patrick Eggle guitars is excellent - having owned guitar from a number of high end or boutique makers (PRS, Vigier, Musicman, Taylor), Eggles are the one make I just keep coming back to. I own a number of Berlins plus a couple of other Eggles, and I think you struggle to beat them for quality vs. spec. vs. price. vs. interest value etc. I always get lots of comments from people who are interested to know what my guitars are.The guitar comes with the original Eggle branded Hiscox case. It's hard to put a price on this - if it was one of the core production models I'd know exactly where to pitch it, but given that this a model you're not likely to see again in a hurry, it's a trickier proposition.
CONDITION: It's hard to believe this guitar is over 20 years old - the condition is superb. There is minimal fretwear, and although there are a few small marks around the edge of the guitar and a tiny scratch on the front, there's little to suggest it's seen any kind of action. It's well set up and plays brilliantly.
