Like they say, if you're looking you know what this is. One of the truly great banjos from one of the greatest designers and builders. These instruments were engineering marvels in their day, way ahead of any competitors, even Gibson. From the flange mounted resonator to the neck tilt adjustments to the tailpiece angle adjuster to the plunger activated mute system these banjos were scientific to the max. And they were beautiful to look at and sound superb. This instrument has had a tough life. It was poorly stored after the owner passed and the original Paige tuners were broken (they were pretty delicate even when new). The banjo got a lot of playing time in its' day and most of it in the first position. There is significant fret wear and nail digging at the second and third fret and a fair amount of fret wear over the entire board. Still frets OK and there isn't any buzzing but it is significant. The finish shows a lot of wear, scuffs, dents, dings, scratches, you name it and it's there. Nothing broken but a small amount of binding has been replaced or repaired at the very bottom of the resonator. The neck shows a lot of hand wear but feels really smooth. The head is new and the tuners are Waverly and work great. The case is original and pretty rough but functional and fairly clean inside. It's broken at the very top and there has been a "hardware store" repair of the hinges, the zippered interior cover (wow, who thought of that?) is intact but the zipper is non-functional. Tack boxes(2) are in working condition and the original tension key is included. We're limited to 12 pictures in these ads but I do have more so feel free to contact me if you want additional details. While this instrument has some rough spots it really has a fantastic tone and feel. It plays easily and has a nice throaty single note tone and balanced chords. And there's something about playing these old instruments the can't be found with the modern reproductions. Thanks for looking
