This is a one-of-a-kind guitar. It was built entirely with USA Fender parts but it was not assembled in the Fender Corona factory.
The beauty of the Fender Stratocaster is that parts from the same model and era are interchangeable. This project started out about 10 years ago when I acquired an absolutely pristine American Standard style Stratocaster body in Teal Green Metallic dated April 1996. In 1996 this color was only offered (at least in the catalog) on the Texas Special Strat and the Lone Star Strat models. Rather than build one of those, a copy of a Strat Plus was undertaken.
The neck is has a S6 serial number so it also is from 1996. It was sold as a used Strat Plus neck with the LSR roller nut installed. However, it also came with string trees which were not standard (now removed and holes filled). Not certain the neck on the guitar was originally from a Strat Plus. In other words either the roller nut or the string trees were added. Regardless, the nut works as it should. The rosewood on the fingerboard is of the quality you rarely see now, even on Custom Shop guitars. The frets are original and have plenty of life and the action is great. The maple is nicely figured and in great shape too. Correct neck plate and Schaller locking tuners are installed. The pickups are a set from a Deluxe Strat Plus. Blue Fender Lace Sensor (Neck), Silver Fender Lace Sensor (Middle), Red Fender Lace Sensor (Bridge). These provide a much greater variety of sounds than the Gold-Gold-Gold set that was standard of the Strat Plus. The volume and tone pots are a US Fender Strat TBX set from the mid-90s which is correct for a Strat Plus. The selector switch and some connecting wires are newer but correct. The input jack and jack cup are correct for the Strat Plus. The Hipshot Tremsetter is newer but correct. The bridge is also newer than 1996 but correct. The perloid pickguard and white trem cover are from the 1990's and correct. This is not a collector's piece but is a great player's piece. I would put its condition at VG+. Holding it in your hands, it is hard to believe it is 20 years old. This is an extremely versatile guitar for recording and gigging. The Lace Sensors are very quiet. The bridge pickup is almost like a humbucker. The neck pickup is like a P90. The middle pickup is like an overwound Strat single coil. This guitar is really great if you need to get a variety of sounds from one guitar. You will not find a better American guitar for under $1,000.
