Up for sale is my 1985 “Designer Series” Gibson Flying V solid body electric guitar. The Serial Number is 80995528 which indicates a date of manufacture of September 9, 1985. This “Designer Series” Model is the Style 30t and would have been made in the Nashville, TN factory. It is a cool looking specimen of the classic Flying V that Lonnie Mack and others made famous. It has a striking black finish with gold & gray cross-hatch pin stripes for accent. The head has Grover sealed tuners and a lock down. The neck is rosewood with Abalone dot markers. The pickups are open dual humbuckers . The bridge is fully adjustable Tune-O-Matic type with whammy bar. I bought the guitar used from Goez Instruments in St. Louis, MO about 15 years ago. I have played it out a few times and it’s a great sounding / great playing axe. You get plenty of second looks with this axe strapped to you. The guitar is nearly perfect with only the most minor little marks and a little pick marks where the pickguard would be if there was one. The case is original and the interior is in excellent condition. The exterior of the case has several spots with tears in the case cover material. This is mostly on the edges which has occurred from normal wear & tear over the years. The carrying handle and all latches  are in good shape and work normally. No key for the case….sorry. If you want any more detailed photos just ask. Also included is a Gibson-marked padded soft case/gig bag that is designed for the Flying V. This is in new condition and was never used. I just bought it because I thought it would be a cool accessory to have.   Here is a bit more info…. After a break in production, the Flying V came back in 1983. Flying V’s from this era were also referred to as the Flying V ‘83. This model differed from earlier Flying V’s in its lack of pickguard and its Alder body. It was also available with several optional vibrato tailpieces. Wood Composition: Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard. Design Elements: Dual uncovered humbuckers, two volume and one tone control, 3 position toggle pickup switch, tune-o-matic bridge, and vibrato tailpiece. Notable Flying V Players: Lonnie Mack (my personal favorite), Marc Bolan, Jimi Hendrix, and Albert King.   A bit about the Designer Series. Mine is the Style 30t. From what I can determine, these are based on the mid-80’s "no pickguard" model Flying V’s and had custom paint jobs. The "Designer Series”  was released over the period of 1984-1985.  Most if not all, were variations of black and white and had a line motif.  Some were artist inspired and would have had the artist's initials somewhere on the instrument. The Style 30t has the black neck & body with Gold/Gray - cross-hatch accent pin stripes.   This is a super looking and playing instrument. Sounds great plays easy.
