A time where the finest woods in the whole world come together with the help of some of the finest luthiers to create an instrument that is so beautiful and magnificent that it truly becomes a functional piece of art. Gibson, the time proven masters at producing the best electric guitars in the world, is the responsible party. Limited numbers were available and for only 3 years. Flash forward 40 years and this guitar becomes the rarest collectible in all of Gibson’s history. One is lucky to even get to see one in his lifetime, let alone own one. This guitar is THE Les Paul.Originally created to celebrate our nations bicentennial year of freedom, this guitar is made from a mahogany core with fine Austrian Flame Maple Top, sides, back, and neck that were crafted in the original Kalamazoo production facility. What is usually plastic on a Les Paul model is rosewood on this one. This includes the control knobs, the control plates; pickup rings and truss rod cover. Gibson did run out of these fancier appointments by the end of the run so only the early ones have all the wooden appointments. However, these later ones have arguable the more rare, original brass parts. Only 77 of these guitars were made. 59 in Natural and 18 in Wine Red.High end guitar collector, Mr. Slubowski, has written a very nice write up on this model that can also be viewed here:  lespaulforum.com/slub6/article.htmlTrogly’s Guitars is more than proud to present this DREAM guitar. This guitar is in fine collectors shape with only a very few imperfections to state. The CaseThis “God of All Les Paul’s” case is the original Artist Series case. These are fancy, high-end cases that Gibson only made for a few years for special models. It features an alligator skin tolex exterior that has very few imperfections on it. (Mostly just light scuffs from storage/collecting.) It has 4 functioning latches and a back clasp to keep the case secure and the original handle is still intact. The lid of the case stays open thanks to the double lid straps present on the case. There is also a Gibson Ribbon on the inside of the lid. The interior of the case is a gorgeous velvety black material that houses this guitar. This is the original case – however, as a person would really cares about guitars, I would not carry this guitar around in this case for long periods of time. This case only features one neck rest and there is too much space at the bottom of the case to properly stop the guitar from moving if picked up. The headstock is naturally push to the right side of the case from the design of the case. I would personally suggest getting a very clean Chainsaw case for your investment and keeping this case on the side. The Guitar! Please, I invite you to view the video tour of this guitar that is located at the end of this listing. This is the best way to see what the guitar looks like in person so one can know what to expect upon arrival – though there is very little “wrong” with this beauty.Headstock – The Les Pauls have unique wood colored headstock. This particular one has a very attractive dark walnut colored background that really pops the nicely aged Gibson Custom logo. The truss rod cover is the original rosewood The Les Paul cover and the headstock is in overall great condition. There are a few light scratches from strings, but nothing deep. The lacquer has started to shrink slighty around the Gibson logo’s “I” and around the custom logo. There is a little bit of lacquer that has chipped off on the right side of the middle bar in the custom emblem. The headstock has a really cool “evil” look with the Red, Black and Gold theme.Nut: Since this is one of the later The Les Pauls, this one came stock with the more rare, brass nut instead of the scalloped nut. Unlike the 25/50 and Artist series brass nut, this one has a more refined and highly polished look to it that screams class. It really goes will with the headstock as well.Fretboard: This guitar has seen very little playtime, if any at all. The frets show little to no wear at all and were just cleaned and polished to remove the light aging patina that had developed over the years. The black binding with red pinstripes encloses the very fancy Ebony, Rosewood, Ebony sandwiched fretboard, which was just oiled with instrument grade lemon oil. The custom inlays are abalone on this model and really look great.Toggle switch: Once again, towards the end of the run, the wood pieces ran out and substitutions were made. This one has a black switch tip, however, it does not feel like a standard plastic as typically used, as it feels just stronger, so this is still a very specialized part. This particular example also features the rare brass poker chip. The chip does show some signs of polishing scratches. Front of Body: This beauty has an awesomely flamed two piece top that will really knock your socks off. There is no major ware on the top, but a few light polishing scratches around the front, most notably by where your arm would rest while playing and under the tailpiece. The gold hardware sparkles like new though the harmonica bridge does show some plating scratches. This late model The Les Paul features a special TP-6 tailpiece instead of the stop bar tailpiece as used on early The LPs. This one still has the very nice wood pickguard and wooden knobs though! The binding is a luxurious rosewood color and only has a few light dings by the arm area in the clear coat.Back of the Headstock: She bears the mother of pearl plaque that reads “ Reg. No. 62 11-20-79” and has gold Gibson branded Schaller tuners with the special for this model pearl keystones. The sides and back of the headstock is also very heavily flamed. This particular The Les Paul has a HUGE volute that has equally huge flame!Neck: The back of the neck is very evenly and highly flamed as well. Underneath all the flame is a very exquisite wave-like wood grain pattern. There are little to no blemishes on the neck.Back: The back is of 2 piece flame maple just like the front. The control plates are made of rosewood, but like the truss rod cover, pickguard and knobs. Surprisingly, there is hardly any discernable wear on the back of the guitar either.Sides: The sides of the guitar are just as equally flamed as the top and back of the guitar.  This guitar has a brass input jack plate and on the treble side of the body, there are some light impressions likely from sitting in the case. This is only viewable in the light and fairly minor, but it is there. The guitar has brass/gold strap buttons. The top buttons finish has worn off the top of the button, likely because this is usually the spot where guitars like these get handled from the most to preserve their beauty. There are three finish checks on the side of the guitar. The first two are located in the cutaway area. If you look hard enough and in the correct lighting you can see one check running across the cutaway on the side about 2.5” from the top of the cutaway, and another right at the tip of the cutaway. The third is located about 1” from the pickguard mounting bracket on the treble side of the body. These finish checks are very minor and one has to be looking for this to see it. The previous owner didn’t even know they were there! There are also two minor marks in the binding by the top strap pin.As with all listings, we do our best to list everything that we see as a blemish on the guitar. With a guitar in such great condition, it might be possible that you may find a few more tiny imperfections here or there such as other handling marks. This guitar is in excellent collector-grade condition. The lacquer has evenly and nicely aged to a beautiful golden hue from being displayed. If you would prefer one without this aging, but with a little tiny bit less flame, please check out my other listing.ConclusionOverall, what more could you ask for in life? This is perhaps the most beautiful guitar you could own. Not only does it look great, but it sounds and plays awesome too – if you dare to even touch it! The new owner will be very happy with the new crown jewel in their collection. Please note: This guitar is far too precious to be shipped and cannot be trusted in the hands of UPS, FedEx or USPS. It would be a true loss in the world for a piece of art such as this to get mishandled. Local pickup must be arranged. International buyers can be met at a nearby airport to zip code 43506.  A $500 deposit is required to hold the guitar.
