Auction is for 1981 Ibanez AS-50The period of the late 1970s and early 80s is considered by many to provide best Ibanez guitars ever made.  Also known as the “Golden Era” by Ibanez fans, these were made entirely in Japan. Guitars of this period were nicknamed "Signature Series" because the luthier signed the label inside the f-hole.The luthiers at Ibanez who signed off on these guitars took their work very seriously. I would put the workmanship of this guitar up against the best vintage Gibsons. These are getting hard to find. The body size is smaller than a Gibson ES-335 but larger than an ES-339. To me it's the perfect size for a semi-acoustic and is very comfortable to play either standing up or sitting down. This guitar plays extremely well with fast low action and a 24 3/4 inch scale length. The sound is second to none. Its original humbucking pickups are high output and high gain before feedback. The tuning machines are smooth as glass. Here are a couple of videos of '81 AS-50s -- this is not me playing and not this guitar but it gives you an idea of just some of the tones you can get:
The frets have some wear, as shown in the closeup of the neck but tit doesn't effect the playing or intonation. The pick guard is missing. Some people remove them because the pick doesn't really contact the guitar due to the archtop design, and IMO the guitar looks better without it. Al told, it's in pretty nice shape for a 36 year old guitar. It comes with a plush lined hard shell case, as shown.I'll ship it in a UPS "iron box" guitar box which is 10" thick, adequate for a jumbo guitar, because nothing else I can get is sufficient to protect this fine instrument. Tension will be taken off the strings and packing will be included inside the case as well as outside and of course, it will be insured.Shipping is to lower 48 USA only.
