Description
Type: Vintage Mixer Brand: AKG

This listing is for one 1970s vintage AKG SM 2006 portable stereo mixer in near mint cosmetic and functional condition. This is a 70s vintage AKG portable mixer that has 6 channels of transformer-balanced preamps with high (20K for super air!) and low band EQ on each channel. It is incredibly well-built using very nice components and is comparable in quality to other 70s high-end German consoles like Studer or Siemens.
It has been modified to have unbalanced individual line level post-fader outputs on 1/4" pigtails (gray cables coming out the back in the picture), this mod is very useful for using it as 6 independent preamps but is non-destructive and easily reversible if you didn't want it. The preamps have a lot of gain so you can use dynamic mics easily and I seem to remember that there is global phantom power on all channels for condenser mics. You can also of course use line level inputs, there is a single XLR input per channel and the gain controls are very wide to accept both mic and line level sources. The lowest 2 rotary pots on each channel are of the push/pull variety and select the bass cut and monitor pre/post fader functions.Aside from the mod, this unit was literally NOS (even has the key attached to lock the lid to the clasps) when I got it and it has lived its life at my studio with the lid on so all controls are smooth and noise-free.
It is set up to run on 220V power (with suitable power cable) but I just noticed that the legend on the back says it can do all voltages, so I'm guessing the power supply has a multi-tap transformer that can be set to any voltage. There is also an input on the back to run it off battery power, but I have no idea what sort of battery one would have to find to do this.I bought this 6 or 7 years ago with the intention of using it to record drums but haven't ended up using it as I have a lot of other preamps and a large format console on which I love the pres/eq. My tests on arrival were very good, it sounded really fantastic, but I haven't used it since then. I've been keeping it for the sole reason that it's a great mixer and I'd like to use it someday, but this hasn't really happened and I figure I'd rather turn it into stuff I'd use more.
