Up for sale, a 1960 Supro Thunderstick in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A very rare two-pickup version of this model, this short-scale guitar is known by a variety of names both accurate and tangental to original marketing, often seen as the Tosca, Thunderstick, and Super. Made in Chicago, IL by parent company Valco, who also produced instruments under the National and Airline brands, among others, this Supro boasts an elegant and simple design. The two oversized single coil pickups are powered by large ceramic bar magnets, delivering a robust and powerful tone, with glassy top end great percussive clarity. These Valco pickups have a sound that no other single coil can approximate, and this pint sized guitar delivers a tone that belies its small stature. The instrument weighs in at a mere 5lbs 10oz. Professionally setup and strung with 11-50 roundwound strings, we've dialed in this Supro here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar for optimal action. The neck has a chunky baseball bat C shaped profile that is extremely round and substantial, filling the palm and playing very comfortably up the 22" scale. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports 20 original frets, which are in very good condition, with well rounded crowns and virtually all of their original height. The action is low and the neck is straight, playing cleanly in all registers with no buzzing or dead spots. The original carved bone nut measures 1 5/8" in width and the original Kluson Deluxe single line gold strip tuners are intact on the headstock. The tuners still work as they should, turning smoothly and holding pitch well with original white buttons. The simple electronics function as intended, with original Stackpole pots that date to the first weeks of 1960. The original tone cap is present as well, and the small two-way switch selects between the two pickups. The hardware includes the original trapeze tailpiece, a compensated rosewood floating bridge, vintage knobs, and stock pickguard. Cosmetically, this guitar boasts a vibrant and professionally done nitro lacquer Candy Apple Red refinish. This finish currently shows sparingly little wear, and the pickguard has also been refinished a sleek semi-matte black.

This mini Supro is a ton of fun to play and has surprising tonal variety, given the simple control layout! The original two-tone blonde and gray alligator chipboard case is included. This case retains its original latches and handle and is in great shape.
