Up for auction is a lovely vintage Conn 8D double french horn (serial number 520978). The engraving reads "C G Conn Vintage 8D U.S.A.". The 8D, is Conn's symphony double horn, and is constructed from solid nickel silver. This instrument's original bell suffered an accident, so it has been fitted with a new top-of-the-line modern Conn "vintage" 8D bell. The valve caps were also jeweled and gold plated, and the horn was fitted with a Conn "flipper" style hand rest. The horn plays beautifully. The valves have very good compression, and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a couple of tiny dings and pings throughout the horn, as well as a small amount of very light pitting. This horn also features a screw-bell configuration, so the bell is detachable for easy storage. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wished for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a Conn briefcase style screw bell case in good condition, and a gold plated Holton Farkas mouthpiece in good condition.All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N.
