For Auction:A new handmade baroque oboe after I.W. Kenigsperger, 1720s Bavaria, housed at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.  Pitched at A = 415-420, this oboe is highly typical of 1720s central Europe, tying it closely with several of baroque period's most important composers for the instrument.  It is ideal for enhancing one's understanding of this music, and makes an excellent choice for oboists new to the baroque oboe, due to its relative light weight and very manageable finger position.  This particular oboe is made from Cherry wood, which has a soft, light, and colorful sound ideal for chamber music and at-home playing.  This oboe has similar playing characteristic to the original, which is made from plum wood, which is closely related to cherry.I have studied the original instrument extensively,  and  worked closely with leading baroque oboe experts to develop these replicas.  I make them by hand using traditional tools, methods, and finishes, but with the high standards of the modern performer in mind with respect to reliability, function, and tuning.
