Gretsch 3 ply 50s drums in great sizes that won't break the bank. These 3 ply shells are my favourite Gretsch shell, they are unbelievably fat and warm, and hard to find. This kit has been around the block a few times. I bought from a seller in the States and here's the story, as brief as I can be: This kit was a matching set, bought on eBay by someone with terrible judgement who decided to recut edges to 45°, wrap in green sparkle and fit with modern hardware. He did an average job, taking two attempts at fitting spurs and removed badges. The kit was bought by a drum restorer, who removed the wrap, sanded and oiled the shells, applied silver sealer and fitted with 60s Gretsch hoops, consolette, spurs, spade diamond tom mount and modern Gretsch floor tom brackets. I then bought the kit, with eBay paper trail as evidence of their genuine provenance, sold off the rusting consolette, diamond mount, spurs and floor tom leg brackets, then drove it down to Newby Drums, where Richard Newby, an acclaimed drum restorer and engineer re-cut original edges, and fitted the floor tom with Gladstone reproduction floor tom leg mounts. What you're buying:
13" X 9" tom, with holes left from badge, diamond mount, and dampers.
16" X 16" floor tom, with holes left from badge, leg mounts and dampers.
22" X 14" bass drum, with holes left from badge, two lots of modern spur holes, prat muffler, consolette and cymbal arm. The 16" is now more like 16" X 15" after Richard re-cut the edges, but he supplied shorter tension rods to accommodate the reduced distance between hoop and lug. The drum tensions as high as I can imagine anyone ever wanting it. The bass drum has non original hoops, claws and rods and includes a set of DW hoop mounted legs, which are great! As you can see, the kit still looks great, and sounds unbelievable. I worked in drum retail for years and have had Sonor Lites, Designers, Phonics, Yamaha Customs, Ayottes, 60s Ludwigs, Radio Kings and other Round Badge kits and this is the best sounding kit I've ever had. I'm selling everything in order to live out of a van for the foreseeable, and am in two minds about selling and as such will be happy if this doesn't sell. All in all, magical shells, ready to gig without fear of damage or fragility, with no rattling or annoying parts. Pretty cool in my book.
