Fender Mustang 1968 / 1969. The serial number (F 239881) indicates 1968 I believe, although the arm is dated March 1969 (see pics). I don’t know whether this indicates a replacement arm, or that the guitar assembly ran over the turn of the year! The original colour of the guitar may have been yellow, judging by some evidence under the serial plate (see last pic of sequence).  The Kluson machine heads are presumably replacements of the original plastic-headed pegs? (They look old and in keeping with 'vintage'.) If so, I've no idea when this happened. A strange feature of this guitar is its incorrect placement of strap button. The previous owner of the guitar was left handed. I’m almost certain, therefore, that this guitar, after respray, had its old button hole filled in and a new button inserted for a left-handed set-up – i.e. with strings arranged ‘upside down’. Since I’ve never used a strap with the guitar, I’ve never changed this. The quality of body repair (and paint) over the previous hole is magnificent – no sign of any previous hole whatsoever (see third picture). The Fender labelling on the headstock has the 1990s style of lettering, since this was the time of the repaint (and re-fret, I assume – they look in too good condition for such an old guitar). The lettering and pat numbers sit underneath the varnish as standard - this is not a cheap stick-on job! - and extra patent numbers appear to be included. The series printed is: Pat: 2.960.900 – 2.972.923 – 3.143.028 – 2.741.146 – 3.236.930 –3.260.148 / DES 186.826Any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
