Up for sale, a 1967 Vox Bulldog in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of Vox's top-tier offerings from 1966-68, the Bulldog was one of the most elegant, imaginative, and just plain fun Vox guitar designs, leaning heavily on Mosrite for inspiration. With a German Carve top, trio of single coil pickups, and a very responsive Bigsby-esque vibrato unit, the Bulldog could stand toe to toe with any Fender or Mosrite in its day. The pickups have a surprising amount of roundness and tonal depth, with clear, bell-like top end and twang to spare. There's a sweetness and clarity to the sound too, and each of the pickup selections on the three-way toggle are distinct and powerful. Produced by EKO in Italy and initially advertised with a $399 price tag ($2700 when adjusted for inflation), the Bulldog was a finely crafted instrument to compete with the best that the USA had to offer. The guitar weighs in at 8lbs 14oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Bulldog for optimal intonation and action with fresh 11-50 roundwound strings. The neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the more slender side of things with a rosewood fretboard and 25" scale length. The stock frets are in great shape, and the slender fretwire is virtually flawless, having just been professionally leveled and crowned. We've installed a new zero fret and the original aluminum nut measures just shy of 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the original plastic overlay with "Vox" logo is in great shape, and the original open back Grover tuners are present too, turning very smoothly and holding pitch as they should, even with liberal use of the vibrato. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, and the three-way pickup selector switch toggles between each of the single coils. The stock roller bridge is present and even includes the original chrome bridge cover. The vibrato is the perfect middle ground between Mosrite and Bigsby, and the spring has a very smooth and quick response. For subtle pitch shifts and surprisingly deep dives, this vibrato performs well and works in tandem with the Grover tuners and roller bridge for very reliable and gig-worthy performance.Cosmetically, this instrument is remarkably clean, with a vibrant and original three-tone Sunburst finish. The original hardware has plenty of shine left in the chrome and only faint aging of the white plastic parts. Typical with Italian guitars of the era, there is prominent vertical finish checking on the body, as well as a few requisite small nicks and scuffs around the body contours. Overall this is a well cared for Bulldog, professionally setup and ready for stage and studio use.The original Vox hardshell case with gold plush interior is included. The case only has one original latch (best to just carry it under your arm), but protects the guitar well and also retains the original handle.
