Description

PLEASE READ:  1989 Fender STRATOCASTER HLE “Homer Haynes” ’57 Tri-Gold Reissue  This is an awesome playing and sounding Fender Custom Shop Guitar.  This was the very first guitar made from the new Fender Custom Shop when they cranked up in 1988-1989.  It is modeled after the Homer Haynes 1957 Gold Stratocaster with Gold Anodized guard and is # 233 of only 500 made.  This guitar has playing wear and has been professionally cared for and gigged with.  The beautiful Shoreline Gold finish is greening a bit around the top wear your arm would rest and the gold hardware is starting to tarnish.  There are some dings and dents as you would expect.  There is little to no fretware.  The original tweed case has scuffs and that awesome red poodle finish that was special for these guitars.  All of this adds to the appeal as this guitar has been played at clubs, pubs, yard parties, prisons and churches.  It is world traveler waiting for a new owner. So here is the reputed celebrity stuff.  There is a note in the case that says the guitar was bought used from Truetone Music in Santa Monica, CA sometime around 2000’s.  The note says it was originally Tom Petty’s guitar player’s instrument.  I would assume that is Mike Campbell.  I called the name and number on the note and talked to the guy.  He was a student in CA at the time and bought the guitar as used gear.  The Truetone website used to list their famous clients and at the time Tom Petty and Mike Campbell were among the many famous folks that shopped there.  I have no other proof and if you buy the guitar you can call the guy.  I am not trying to represent this as a celebrity owned instrument and am not charging extra for that so you win either way.    The summary is this a great playing and rare Fender Shoreline Gold 57 reissue Custom Shop Strat.  Search under the HLE strats and there are several closet queen guitars that are in pristine and untouched condition.  This one is a great instrument that has been played and is priced hundreds below the others.  I am selling only because I have not played it in a while and am working on a 1963 Chevy pickup at the moment.
