*Update* Uploaded better photos. Added to the description below. 2/9/2017Beautiful Herb Ellis guitar. Aria Pro II Herb Ellis PE-175 Japan. This particular model was made in late 70's-80's. The condition of this guitar is excellent with minor use and wear which include some very light marks but no hard scratches, In fact, it barely has light hairline marks. No body damage to the guitar. The surface is overall very smooth and I have not polished it or used any cleaner to it since it was stored in the guitar case, surface was simply wiped with a micro fabric cloth. The metals not in too bad of shape but some do show wear of the plating color. Might need tuning or new strings but plays beautifully.
I believe the case is the original from when this was purchased since it is also marked "Japan" on all of the silver clamps surrounding the case.
This Aria Pro II guitar version has the "H.E." initials on the pickguard and the word "Herb Ellis" on the lower neck. There are some circle indentations as you can see in the photos which I believe to be was when this guitar was being made to be a left they changed it to being a right because the indentations match the items of the opposite side such as knobs, audio jack circle. I tried searching for hours to find a similar one but I finally came to this conclusion as to why the body of this model is so unique looking. Beautiful guitar! Will be very well packed and fully insured.Below is some online info about the brand:
Herb Ellis is a jazz guitarist who rose to fame in the 1950s, especially when he replaced Barney Kessel in the Oscar Peterson Trio. In 1953, Ellis bought a single-pickup Gibson ES-175 that became his main guitar for many years. While he was never a Gibson endorser during the 1950s and 1960s, he did help bring the ES-175 to stardom. In the late 1970s, Aria began offering a Herb Ellis hollowbody guitar that featured two humbucker pickups and a sharp Florentine cutaway—a sharp contrast to the single-pickup, smooth Florentine cutaway ES-175. It was called the PE 175, and it first appeared in Aria’s catalog circa 1978. Aria continued to produce the Herb Ellis signature model through the late 1980s, until he returned to his Gibson roots and they began producing the new ES-165 Herb Ellis model in 1991, which features his signature on the headstock. The Aria Pro II PE 175 “Herb Ellis” model features a laminated maple body, crème body binding, two bound f-holes, mahogany neck, 20-fret bound ebony fingerboard with split square inlays, three-per-side tuners, rosewood-based adjustable bridge, engraved “Pro II” tailpiece, layered black pickguard with “H.E.” initials, two covered AL7 humbucker pickups, four knobs (two Volume, two Tone), three-way pickup switch, gold hardware and Sunburst finish.
