Hi Folks ... Wyatt Fawley here again....This is a great little travel banjo which I built to resemble a late Cole's design. I make the 9 inch rims and tension hoops here in the shop and also do my own plating 'in house".This rim is comprised of 1 1/8" layer of maple, with 4 ensuing laminations of honduran rosewood, which is closer in proprties to Koa than it is to any kind of rosewood. The tone ring is a german silver sleeved wire, like a Little Wonder, but is quite shsort and is completely hidden by the head. The laminated walnut neck with 3 pc maple/walnut/maple center strip features a gaboon ebony fretboard inlaid with saw cut or"slotted" inlays of pale abalone. The pattern was taken from a ca 1910 Cole's tenor. The 20 fret neck has a scale length of 18 7/8", which was copied from an old Fairbanks "Baby Electric".The tailpiece is a repro No-Knot, and the tuners are 2:1 geared "Page Brand" single screw tuners from the 20s. The modern geared 5th is fitted with a uke sized button. It's just 29 inches long from Stem to Stern, and weighs just 3 and a half pounds. Lots bigger sound than you probably think ... amazing little banjo that's really fun to play.
