Vintage Yamaha FG350E 1972 green label.This old, unique and quite rare guitar is Yamaha's take on the Gibson J-160E that John Lennon played in the late 60's.When many of the Japanese guitar makers were either making a copy or a replica of an original American guitar, Martin, Gibson, and Guild and Gallagher to a lesser extent, Yamaha back in the day pretty much marched to the beat of their own drum. Commonly they would put together an eclectic guitar, inspiration taken from multiple sources.In the case of the FG350E, obvious design cues come from the Gibson J160E with the magnetic pickup/control knobs. The mother of pearl fret inlays cues come from the Gibson Southern Jumbo introduced in the 40's and early J160's. X bracing used in this FG350E differs from the J160E's ladder bracing, and without looking into details, is probably Yamaha's own design. Pick guard is cued from the Hummingbird with Yamaha's twist. Body is Yamaha's own Mini Jumbo design as is the head stock.So quite an eclectic mix in design here, very typical of Yamaha and to this day they still seem to have that company philosophy to "march to the beat of their own drum". This vintage FG350E is in good condition with very light use as the fretboard and frets are in good shape and not a lot of ware. The single coil pickup is very dynamic and responds very well to different styles of play.In cosmetically and structurally (qualifying measurements below) very good condition with an easy playing feel making this an enjoyable guitar to play.Highlights of the FG350E include:* Spruce top
* Indian rosewood back and sides
* African mahogany neck
* Rosewood fretboard and bridge
* Split block mother of pearl fretboard inlays
* Nitrocellulose gloss finish
* Single coil passive factory pickup with vol and tone in great working order
* Factory bone nut/aluminium saddle
* Factory nickle plated machine heads
* Bone after market bridge pins - original pins included
* New Elixir long life phosphor bronze 11's fitted
* Nice deep warm vintage tone
* Set specs listed below
* Returns and guarantee see below
Servicing done by me include clean and polish gloss finish, cleaned and oiled fretboard/bridge, professional setup with nice action. Polished the frets. Frets are level and lots of life left. Dismantle, clean, lubricated and polish tuners. Again, structurally in very good condition, neck is straight, all is as it should be.Some qualifying measurements....* Guarantee of structural condition based on following measurements carries a full refund if when received these measurements are not correct.* Neck relief is set at 0.9"/6th string and 0.10"/1st string, taken from the 6th fret, meeting the recommended standard and reveals a very slight twist in the neck of 0.01", an acceptable tolerance. This 44 odd year old guitar has dried out, the wood has set in its default position and I don't think is moving anywhere soon!* Action at the 12 fret, 1st string 1.75mm/ 6th string 2.20mm. (measured with the bone saddle I slotted in, read below)* Nut width of 43.7mm. String spacing from the outside of the 1st and 6th strings is 36.1mm, interestingly less than expected from a guitar that has a 42mm nut width. There is a wide parameter for a custom set up on this nut to suit. The current set up suits a flat pick player. There is space to customise a nut to suit a finger style picker who usually prefers wider string spacing.* A straight edge across the top of the frets butted up to the bridge rests approximately 1mm below the top of the bridge, well within acceptable tolerances of up to 2mm above or below the top of the bridge.* Truss rod moves in both directions* Intonation open strings and 12th fret is so close to perfect it's hardly worth mentioning. Something I've often found with vintage Yamaha's.Still lots of room for adjustment on the aluminium saddle which I purposely left as 1) it's hard getting the aluminium filed down, 2) The aluminium saddle has a fine copper wire under it in the saddle slot completing the circuit for the single coil pickup, definitely didn't want to go too far and have to find a replacement! An option when being played acoustically is a bone saddle can be slotted in with a finer adjustment. Currently it has a bone saddle I put there to test this theory and it works a treat lowering the action which also produced a deep and warm acoustic tone response.Demo here.....Can pack safely for transport and shipped Australia wide.A genuine vintage Green label case can be supplied for an additional $80 and I recommended to shipping with a case.Taggs.....Vintage, Japan, Daion, Kasuga,MIJ, Epiphone, Takamine, Gibson
