Auctioning a vintage Gibson soprano ukulele with original soft canvass case. The case is in perfect condition with no stains or tears. Handle is perfect. Three snaps at closure are perfect. Soft felt-like lining is in good condition.I purchased this mahogany body Gibson uke with a slight crack on the back, but otherwise in beautiful condition. Sans strings. The fingerboard is straight and the neck angle is good. It measures 20-3/4” from top to bottom and the widest part of the body measures 6-1/2”. I took it to a well respected luthier for repair of the crack. While there it was re-hydrated, the crack was professionally repaired, the fingerboard was cleaned, and it was restrung with new D’Addario soprano strings. I can provide the contact info on the luthier to seriously interested parties. He is willing to discuss the detail of the work he did on this uke.Based upon the pictures I sent to them, ‘Gibson’ said this uke is a mid-30’s UKE-1 model. Otherwise, they had no archives from that period to determine its exact year or anything specific about it.  They weren't real helpful.Another well known uke expert said this of it, “it’s in killer shape. It’s a post-war Gibson Style 2 uke, which they supposedly didn’t make after the war. There’s a bunch of Gibson things from about 1947 to 1953 that never appeared in catalogs but exist, and this is one of them. We know it’s a Style 2 by the multi-ply top binding and bone saddle; Style 1s didn’t have that. We know it’s post-war by the angular script logo that was introduced in 1947. That 1284 number (printed inside at bottom of neck) is a FON for 1948.
