This listing is for one of my custom full-scale, full-spec electric travel guitars - Oakcaster number #17. These guitars are designed for the professional overseas gigging musician or the dedicated player who wants to take their guitar on holiday or business trips. The 2 M8 hex-bolt & threaded insert neck fixing arrangement (see pics) makes for quick disassembly and reassembly so the guitar then fits into airline carry-on luggage. This means you can be 100% sure of your guitar arriving with you at your destination completely damage free. My Oakcasters feature full-scale necks and the oak bodies are not only great to look at but they also give the guitar a convincing weight while keeping the body size to a minimum. This guitar is the 2nd ‘headless’ Oakcaster I’ve made (the 1st has become my ‘go-to’ rehearsing and gigging guitar). It features a Chinese-sourced bridge unit that gives proven tuning stability combined with simple string fixing at the headstock end. Tuning adjustment is made with the cute gold 'tuning' knob that sits magnetically in the little dock at the end of the guitar and which sticks to the tuner screws while being used to tune the guitar. This guitar fits effortlessly in two parts into airline carry-on luggage by virtue of the headless neck being around 10cm shorter than my other Oakcasters. The balance of this guitar on the strap is excellent and with a weight of 6lb gives you the feel of a full-size instrument yet is light enough to be comfortable being played for hours on end.This body on this guitar is a lovey single piece of oak with a pretty yet subtle grain, finished with 3 or 4 coats of clear Bri-Wax to complement the maple neck. The neck was bought new and I lopped the headstock off, re-fretted it with jumbo frets, hand-lacquered it with wipe-on poly and then precision-levelled the frets in the overall set up process. The pickups on this guitar are a top-of-the-range ‘Railhammer Hyper Vintage’ set imported from the USA and fitted directly to the oak body. The tone on these pickups is outstanding – please do some research on them if you’re interested and check out the following video clip of Russel Mendoza-Smith playing his Railhammer-equipped Oakcaster #12 at a wedding in Marrakesh:https://www.facebook.com/relovedguitars/videos/1880880025502442/ You can hear the Railhammers producing everything from funky clean tones to searing lead breaks in the same Michael Jackson medley.These pickups cost £250 (including postage and import duty) hence the price of the guitar. The guitar is wired with a master volume and master tone knob and a push-push coil split for each pickup giving a wide range of single coil and humbucker combinations. The 3 way micro toggle selects the neck, both or bridge pickup. I chose a maple neck for this guitar so that I would be able to list it for sale in the USA since new CITES regulations mean that I can only sell rosewood fingerboards within the EU.The action on this guitar is very light and low (see pics) and, as with all my guitars, the frets have been levelled and the nut slots cut to give a very low 1st fret action of 0.3mm and to ensure perfect tuning stability.The cavities are shielded with copper foil throughout and grounded to reduce unwanted RF interference.
