I have a very unique vintage Carvin here. It's serial dates it between 1991-1994, it's a fairly early sequence of numbers from that time frame and i was told by the former owner it is a 91. Carvin serials are difficult to pin down exactly. It's a DC125 , with a tune o matic style bridge for simplicity. One small condition note to it. Is it was upgraded to locking Sperzel american tuners. I think those were not stock at the time but later became a stock feature on Carvin/s. So there is a tiny barely visible hole near each of them from the previous tuners. See pics for overall condition. It has only minor playwear. And it's large beefy frets have a small amount of even ( not jagged or pitted( fretwear). The finishwork of the guitar is outstanding and looks very clean and glossy. The guitar has remained in it's case for the majority pf ot's 25+ year life. So it really looks better than average in terms of the luster of it's finish. Carvin now and then has always had great finishes. Now the really special feature about this guitar is the wood. This is the first time i have seen this in a guitar i have owned. The body wings of this guitar are solid Flamed Maple all the way through. It is not a body top or a backing veneer. It's an entire body made of flame maple. In today's world of rationed wood that is almost unheard of. Can you imagine what the big brand custom shop would charge you if you request this? Even Carvin which has always been a guitar maker that offers unique choices, would be hard pressed to even find a piece like this suitable for an entire body. That's the difference between 1991 and 2017. The 90s were known as the good wood years for a reason. The tone is very beautiful. Maple has been said to be "bright" But that is not truly an accurate description of it's tone. Maple is used in guitars to add sustain, thickness/fatness, and natural compression to the tone pallet. What this does is gives you a singular focus and articulation to your sound. You get a beautiful bell like tone from it with clear note separation. If you have ever played a guitar that sounded to bland or a guitar that sounds good but kinda muddy where you dial in your amp to turn down the mids and turn up the treble to try and compensate. Then this comparably is the opposite of that. It has a dynamic perky tone that instantly catches you ear. Also note i am not 100% sure what the neck is. It could be mahogany. Or it could be a different grade of plain maple. Look carefully at the grain patterns on it. If anyone knows your welcome to chime in. The pickup on here has a mini switch for coil taps but it is not setup that way. It's a single active EMG pup and the switch does nothing. EMG's are not my favorites. Some people love them, i love changing them out. But it should not be the deciding factor on this guitar because an EMG's can easily be sold for more than the used price of most of the great passive pickups out there. It comes with it's original Carvin hardshell case. This is really a collector's guitar. The unique wood selection justifies it's price. On a new build that option would be a 500-700$ upcharge just for that feature alone on top of the guitar base price. The word rare get's thrown around a lot in guitar hyperbole. Most guitars not rare they are just expensive and rare is changed out for expensive. If you can buy any number of them with the click of a mouse they are not rare. This guitar really is rare. Ships fast and insured in a new rectangular guitar sized box.Thank you for reading and considering.
