Description BALDWINBURNS GB 651965VERY RARE.VERY COLLECTIBLE.EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITY. EXCELLENTCONDITION.Note: We will ship this guitar internationally but you must get a quote from us first. MY BURNS GUITAR AFFLICTION.First, my bias. As an American having grown up in the 1960's-1970's, many of my friends find it odd that my most cherished brand of guitar in my collection is British. BURNS. Even though I respect and honor the creative genius of Leo Fender, his guitars were just functional. No more-no less. They were basic. Jim Burns contemporaneously was too a creative genius. But his guitars were antithetical to Leo's. Maybe to the point where I would describe Jim as an "Artist" who "created" musical instruments and Leo as a "manufacturer of products that could be used to play music."I can remember the first time seeing a photo of the Burns Bison, 4pup guitar. It not only caught my eye, it captured my imagination. All of those authors selling books about a "tipping point", "Eureka moment", "imagination", et al could have just shown a photo of that guitar and saved a lot of paper (I now own 14 of those original 4pup Bisons). Jim Burns was a genius and his guitars were simply manifestations of those millions of creative flashes that moved through his whole brain-left and right sides. I understand this absolute affliction of affinity for Jim's guitars makes me a bit of an odd ball among collectors-but isn't that really the best way to be... different? Of course it is. I'll take creativity over function every day of the week.Over the next few weeks, I will be offering many of my "more unique" Burns (Baldwin, Shergold, Hayman..) pieces for sale on ebay. All Burns guitars are unique-but some are "more unique" than others. And having 200+ in my collection, I can assure you that I have a lot of the "more unique" pieces. And you guys in the UK, get a national holiday for Jim. He deserves it.THIS GUITAR: THE GB65 by ORMSTON BURNS LONDON, LTD/BALDWIN (1960-65)NOTE: A very small quantity of these guitars were built for a few months in 1965 before the product line was killed by Baldwin."The GB65 is one of the rarest and most unusual Burns guitars. This model was in production for only one year from 1965-66 and was one of the first instruments discontinued by Baldwin after they fully took over operation of the company. It is a flat top acoustic guitar with two sound holes which was called the "Controlled Resonance" design by the company. Jim Burns was extremely proud of this "new guitar creation" , especially since it was unlike most other guitars being built in 1965. This full size acoustic guitar with intentionally placed braces etc. inside the body coupled with two surface mounted "Rez-o-matic" bar magnet pickups produces a very clear and very bright sound which is unusual for a full size hollow body flat top guitar. Excellent for recording. Overall a very rare and essential part of any Burns guitar collection."The G.B.65 was new in ’65 and was Burns’ first acoustic-electric. While supposedly a “jazz guitar,” this looked more like a single cutaway dreadnought than what we usually associate with jazz. The body was hollow mahogany, whereas the flat top featured a flamed sycamore veneer and two asymmetrical two-piece diamond-shaped soundholes. The G.B.65 had a three-and-three head that flared out right at the top, which culminated in three angles sort of like a stretched out Gibson. Two Rez-o-Matik pickups with bar magnets sat on laminated surrounds. There was an elevated pickguard and controls (three-way, volume, tone) were mounted on more pickguard material on the lower bout. The bridge was a simple bar type, with a simple trapeze tail with a “B”-stenciled diamond insert.ITEM# BAL-74 BRAND Baldwin TYPE Guitar, Elect CLASS 6 String MODEL# 531 MODEL NAME GB65 DESCRIPTION Flat top acoustic electric.
