For sale Genuine 1956 Gibson Les Paul goldtop neck! For sale is this genuine 1956 Gibson Les Paul goldtop neck, which was badly damaged at some point in its history but has since been repaired and is perfectly structurally sound. The neck belonged to a 1956 Les Paul goldtop with the serial number 612850 (the serial number is still visible on the back of the headstock, as you can see in the photographs). At some point, the guitar was damaged very badly and the body was destroyed. The damage to the neck was less severe, but a small portion of the neck (about three quarters of the way down) was unsalvageable. This was repaired by replacing the unsalvageable portion of the neck with a new piece of mahogany and strengthening the repair with splines. The new section measures 3.25” (approx) - the rest of the neck is all the original wood! The repair is structurally sound - I know because I fitted this neck to a body and played it for a few years with no trouble at all! Veneers have been applied to the back of the neck (lower half only) to mask the repair as neatly as possible. There is some visible superficial damage to the rest of the neck and it will never look pristine unless you give it a solid colour (an “all gold” or a Black Beauty would be tempting options!). However, you could just do as I did and give it a clear coat and let this neck wear its history proudly! This is a genuine 1956 Gibson Les Paul neck with a unique life story, and nothing could be cooler (IMO) than wearing it openly. :)  Keith Richards would definitely approve! This neck would be the perfect thing to use if you are planning to build a Burst replica. Your guitar wouldn’t really be a replica at all - it would be an authentic 1956 goldtop neck with a replacement body! How incredible would that be? :)  Alternatively, if you have a 1950s Les Paul that was renecked, this is your opportunity to make it complete. A third possibility is that you are replacing the headstock of a 1950s Les Paul, and you can take the headstock off this to use instead of a new piece of wood. Finally, what makes this neck even more special is that the taptones are beautiful! I would describe them as bright, clear and very punchy. It is a super-resonant piece of wood that sings when you tap it with your knuckle, and it will make somebody a guitar that is acoustically alive and very responsive.
