Up for sale, a 1965 Mosrite Ventures model signed by the Ventures! This original vintage Mosrite Ventures model was signed over twenty years ago by the band, and features the signatures of original members Don Wilson, Bob Bogle, and Mel Taylor in addition to Gerry McGee whose lead guitar duties with the Ventures date back to 1968. It's a true rarity with signed instruments to have signatures applied to a guitar that truly represents the heritage and history of the band, making this a particularly special guitar and piece of Ventures history. An impressive vintage instrument in its own right in addition to being the perfect vehicle for showcasing the signatures of the Ventures, this Mosrite can deliver surfy twang and sizzling fuzz tones with aplomb.
Signed "To Brad" with the Ventures name in addition to the individual signatures, this guitar has light nitro lacquer overspray on the signatures to protect them for years to come. We received this guitar here at our shop from Brad's family, and it has never been previously offered for sale! All signatures are consistent with other known genuine examples, and this guitar comes from the family of an avid Northwest Surf and Garage Rock fan, and has conceivably lived its whole life just miles from where the Ventures were founded in Tacoma, Washington. The most popular and enduring instrument produced by the Bakersfield, CA based Mosrite company, the Ventures model was a joint venture between Mosrite founder Semie Moseley and the band. While there have been a fair share of reissues and copies over the decades, nothing compares to the elegance and dynamic responsiveness of the original Mosrite Ventures Model. The pickups are particularly hot and detailed, with top end that is present, round, and clear without being brittle, and plenty of midrange warmth and punch to cut through any mix. The low end blooms and growls while retaining focus and when in the middle position on the three-way pickup selector toggle, both pickups are wired in series for a particularly powerful tone. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Mosrite is dialed in with fresh 11-50 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender C shaped profile with nicely rounded shoulders, flattening out near the center of the profile and providing a fast, yet substantive playing experience. The original slender frets are intact on the bound rosewood fretboard, showing light, uniform wear on frets 1-5, with sparingly little wear further up the neck. These frets have been leveled and crowned in the guitar's lifetime, currently in "fretless wonder" territory yet playing cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width and on the headstock the original Mosrite and Ventures logos are present in addition to the original Kluson Deluxe double line tuning machines.
All of the original electronics are intact on the body, with "Mosrite of California" pickup covers, stock wiring, Centralab pots that date to '65, and chrome "M" knobs. The dark tortoise pickguard contrasts nicely with the lightly yellowed original nitro lacquer finish too. While the Moseley vibrato unit and bridge are original and work very smoothly, the vibrato arm and neck plate are modern replacements furnished by Hallmark Guitars, the best modern resource for quality Mosrite parts.Decades ago this guitar developed two cracks on either side of the neck pocket, and for decades the body was kept structurally sound by a large sandcast plate screwed to the back. This plate has subsequently been removed, the cracks professionally glued and repaired, and any extra mounting holes filled and touched up. Other cosmetic wear includes various nicks, scuffs, and assorted small battle scars around the edges of the deep German Carve on the body. This is a playable piece of surf rock history and would be equally at home on stage or in a collection! The original brown faux alligator hardshell case is included. Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.
