Here I have available from my vintage collection an all original 1980 Fender Stratocaster.First year of The Strat model in Candy Apple Red.This is a highly sort after collectable versatile smooth playing instrument with classic tones. There are no splits, cracks, breaks or repairs of this 10lbs beauty.Moderate play wear with a fair amount of dings and nicks as per pics. The action is low, neck is true & straight and the frets are in good shape.Introduced by Fender at the 1980 NAMM Show this souped up customized version of the Stratocaster,"The Strat" was designed by Gregg Wilson, then chief of Fender R&D and Dan Armstrong as his consultant. The Strat features the smaller headstock similar to pre CBS model Stratocasters. Since the worn out tooling was used the headstock is slightly smaller than the 57 - 65 pre CBS headstock. Similar to the 1979 25th Anniversary Stratocaster models, The Strat was fitted with the popular pre CBS style truss rod adjustment and four bolt neck plate. The headstock and body paintwork were also matched. The Strat also had several noteworthy innovations. A hotter lead pick up, branded X1, with a much stronger output than the standard Stratocaster pup. X1 pups would read between 6 and 8.5 ohms. A new wiring circuitry was introduced delivering nine basic tones. A twin mode rotary switch replaced the bottom tone control which used with the five way selector switch allowed not only the five standard Stratocaster tone selections but another four "new" tones never available before.Neck & middle pups in series humbuckingMiddle & bridge pups in series humbuckingNeck & bridge pups in parallelNeck & bridge pups in parallel with middle in series. The Strat was fitted with the standard 250k ohm audio taper pots and the master tone control carried a regular .05MFD capacitor.Interesting to also note that the Gold Tuners and whammy bar were not manufactured in time for the release at the 1980  NAMM Show. Also to note Fender ceased producing this model when the price of Gold increased. The cost of the Gold Hardware was rumoured to be worth more than the guitar. LOL.This highly sort after collectable 37 year old vintage Fender has been unplayed for a decade or so and held in storage as part of my collection. It has no hidden issues and is all original including some case candy. The strap buttons have been replaced with strap lock pins & strap, the original strap buttons are included. It is an absolute pleasure to play and a very versatile instrument.
